We are a Legal Advocacy and Reentry Services Center. Root & Rebound is a Reentry Advocacy Center. We are a team of attorneys and advocates.

We use our resources, skills, and expertise to fight for the rights of some of the most discriminated against people in modern day America – returning citizens with criminal records. Our mission is to reduce barriers and maximize opportunities for returning citizens in the Bay Area, throughout California, and beyond. We aim to accomplish this mission through innovative, holistic and client-centere

d services, including: (1) Direct legal services with social services support, (2) Legal education and trainings & (3) High-impact policy advocacy and litigation. This model supports individuals, empowers communities, recognizes the need for systemic change, encourages statewide and national collaboration, and supports the free-flow of reentry information. This session is designed for community-based organizations, nonprofits, and government agencies that support justice-involved individuals to navigate and implement LA County’s Fair Chance Hiring Ordinance.

Root & Rebound South Carolina is now located at the Jud Hub, a collaborative workspace where our team will continue to carry our work forward. While our location has changed, our services and commitment to supporting our system-impacted community members remains the same.

Today reminds us how powerful love is—especially when we use it to transform the world around us. In honor of Black History Month and Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating Ericka Huggins, a Black Panther Party leader who has dedicated her life to activism and social change.

From leading youth education programs in Oakland to surviving incarceration as a political prisoner just months after giving birth, Ericka never stopped fighting for justice. Her time in solitary confinement deepened her commitment to healing, and she continues to share the power of yoga and meditation with incarcerated and system-impacted communities.

May we all be fueled by love every day to create the change we want to see.
