Strengthening Community Dialogue Across Difference

This session examines ways our bodies respond when we enter into dialogue from various experiences of power, dominance, vulnerability, or marginalization. Through reflection and somatic practice, we will build skills for staying present during difficult conversations.

A light dinner will be provided by the Village of Oak Park and the conversation will be facilitated by Commission Chair Yoko Terretta as well as Maya Puentes, Dr. Kristin Davisson, and Dot Lambshead Roche.

SPEAK SOMETHING ALIVE: Art and Creative Writing as Tools for Movement Building

Whether or not we identify as artists ourselves, how does our communication connect to issues of identity, audience, and narrative? How might we instill our advocacy and organizing with energy that is attention-grabbing, anthemic, and mobilizing, connecting to deeper narratives that everyday people are already primed to support? Please join us for this interactive workshop, held virtually. Register for conference here: https://raceconsciousdialogues.corsizio.com/event/6a91900f57d1d1fe4de9d7b9

Thank you community members Esther Lopez, Yoko Terretta, Ana Garcia Doyle, Christine Cipra and Faith Cole, for your reflections on Race Conscious Dialogues as we head into this week of our summer campaign. The work can be hard in the moment as we challenge our socialization, but going forward it leads to deepening in community, organizing around justice issues, abandoning harmful narratives, advocating for change in our existing spaces, and building systems of care. Link to donate in comments! Thank you.
