🎉💻 Congratulations to our 2026 Terri Race Tech Fund Scholarship Recipients! 💻🎉

We are proud to recognize Omaira and Luis, two outstanding graduates of Golder College Prep, who have each been awarded a new MacBook Pro through the Terri Race Tech Fund Scholarship! 🌟

This scholarship supports students who have demonstrated resilience, determination, and a commitment to advancing their education despite the challenges they’ve faced along the way.

✨ Omaira
A first-generation college student and Design Studies major at the University of Illinois Chicago, Omaira is passionate about creating thoughtful, people-centered designs that improve communities. Inspired by her experiences growing up in Little Village and spending a gap year in Mexico, she hopes to use design to revitalize underserved spaces and create solutions that are both functional and culturally meaningful. 🎨🏙️🌎

✨ Luis
A first-generation college student at the University of Notre Dame studying Accounting with minors in Real Estate and Latino Studies, Luis has already made history as Golder’s first QuestBridge Match Scholar. As a student leader, athlete, mentor, and salutatorian, he has consistently uplifted those around him while pursuing excellence. His passion for technology and business will help him create opportunities for his family and future generations. 📚⚽💼📈

We are honored to support these exceptional students as they continue their educational journeys. Your perseverance, leadership, and dedication inspire us all. 💙

👏 Please join us in congratulating Omaira and Luis on this well-deserved achievement!

The Oak Park River Forest Local Scholarship night is one of our favorites of the year because our mom just loved being a Huskie. I can still hear and see her singing the OPRF fight song and reminiscing about her days as a cheerleader there. We had the pleasure of meeting two bright and dedicated students who are pursuing majors in the field of technology: Garrett Hunkele (Dayton University for Mechanical Engineering Technology) and Owen McFadden (Purdue University for Biomolecular Design).

Meet Our 2026 Recipients:
⚙️ Garrett Hunkele | University of Dayton Garrett is a true "hands-on" innovator. After diving into the automotive technology classes at OPRF, he realized his calling was in the automotive industry. He is headed to Dayton to study Mechanical Engineering Technology, turning his passion for how things work into a career. We are so impressed by his clarity of vision and drive!

🧬 Owen McFadden | Purdue University Owen’s journey at OPRF is an inspiring story of growth. He transformed from a quiet student into a leader of multiple clubs, discovering a love for the "concise masterpieces" of writing and the complexities of math along the way. He is off to Purdue to study Biomolecular Design—a unique intersection of biology, chemistry, and computer science—to help change the world for the greater good.

Supporting these two as they head off to do big things is such an honor. We know our mom would be leading the cheer for both of you! 📣🧡💙

🎉🎂HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TERRI 🎂🎉

We have decided to postpone Terri’s Race another year, with the plan to have our final race in 2026. In exciting news, Terri’s two youngest children, Tasia (and husband Stephen) and Nathan (and wife Ellie), are expecting new babies due just four days apart at the end of September, which coincides closely with our usual race date. This brings Terri’s grandbaby count up to 6! Terri loved babies and always told us she wanted 12 kids!

In honor of her 71st Birthday today, please consider donating to the Terri Race Educational Technology Fund via the link in our bio.

While you’re there, check out the link to our newsletter to read more about the 2024-2025 TRETF Recipients!

We hope to see you all on the first Sunday in October of 2026! 🛼

Announcing our annual Golder College Prep Alumni Laptop Recipients: Cat Galvan and Oscar Rodriguez!

Cat graduated from Pomona College successfully thanks to her pure grit and no thanks to her used laptop that was inconsistent and unreliable. After gradation, Cat found herself in the Chicago Public Libraries building her resume, job hunting and interviewing. Just after receiving her new MacBook Pro 💻, she has secured employment and is ready to join the workforce with her new tech!

Oscar is a student at Loyola University in Chicago and, even without a personal computer, is maintaining a 3.6 GPA! That has meant lots of late nights in the library for him. We are thrilled that he applied and we could help ease the college experience by providing him a tool where he can get his work done anywhere and anytime.

Both Cat and Oscar reflect positively on their time at Golder and learned to persist over life’s hurdles during their academic journeys. Shout out to the Golder staff past and present and a huge congrats to Cat and Oscar! Welcome to the Terri Race Tech Fund family!

Hello Spring! The Terri Race Educational Technology Fund kept busy this winter and continued two partnerships with very deserving local organizations. First, the TRTF was able to make a donation to Opportunity Knocks. Your support allowed us to fund professional development for their staff, HR software, and an online platform that helps their awesome participants create profiles to set and track goals. Lastly, our donation supported their sister organization, Knockout Kitchens - OK’s catering and pickle selling business - with the ability to fund their software needs.

Next, we restarted our partnership with Hephzibah Home in Oak Park! Pre-pandemic, the TRTF funded their technology room with Mac Desktop Computers. Nowadays, Hephzibah staff is in need of funding an online platform, called Binti whose mission is to provide software solutions to help child welfare agencies and foster/adoptive families improve the foster care system and ensure every child has a safe, loving home.

It’s been really amazing to see how our mission at the TRTF and our mom’s legacy, continue to reach organizations in ways we couldn’t have imagined when we first started out 15 years ago. As always, if you know of a local organization to connect us with, please reach out!
