📢 ONE WEEK LEFT to submit a public comment condemning the federal government’s attempt to restrict funding for medically necessary healthcare for transgender youth!

Last month, the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed two rules aimed at curtailing access by transgender youth to medically necessary care. One would condition Medicare and Medicaid funding on hospitals refusing to provide gender-affirming care to trans and nonbinary youth under 18, and the other would prohibit Medicaid and CHIP from covering this care for youth under 18 and 19, respectively. (Note: These proposals are NOT bans on medically necessary care and are NOT currently in effect.)

Take action NOW and submit a public comment condemning these proposed rules by NEXT WEEK, February 17 at 11:59 PM EDT. For more information, guidance and instructions on how to submit your comment, and a direct link to where you can make your voice heard, visit pflag.org/cms_publiccomment 🗣️

2026 is the year of intersectional action. As the Trump administration continues to push its authoritarian agenda, the collective power of Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and all other marginalized peoples grows stronger, uniting as one unstoppable force in the pursuit of justice.

The work of the Civil Rights Movement was the culmination of millions of Americans coordinating through powerful grassroots organization over the span of several years. It was not quick, it was not easy, and countless lives—including leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X—were lost in this fight. Though the ultimate goal of ending segregation was achieved, it is more clear than ever that the work for collective social justice is far from over.

In the words of Angela Davis, Black le***an civil rights activist, philosopher, and writer: “Justice is indivisible. You can't decide who gets civil rights and who doesn't.”

This Black History Month, as every month, we rise in solidarity with our Black LGBTQ+ loved ones, and commit ourselves to the fight for intersectional justice.

We will have our regularly scheduled support meeting today from 3pm - 5pm Enter First United Church of Oak Park from the door off the parking lot on Kenilworth.

Please do not feel the need to arrive or come if your drive is long or travel will be dangerous - stay safe and warm.

We will find another time to gather before our next monthly meeting, so stay tuned.

Friendly reminder: Being an ally means ACTIVELY learning, advocating, and speaking up for your LGBTQ+ loved ones. You cannot claim the title without putting in the work. 💪
