What happens when tradition and improvisation meet?

For Frequency II: A Live Music Transmission, we’re honored to highlight Kaoru Watanabe Kaoru Watanabe — composer, flutist, taiko artist, and one of the most innovative cross-cultural musicians of our time.

Rooted in traditional Japanese performing arts and shaped by decades of exploration, Kaoru’s work bridges ancient and contemporary worlds. Through taiko, flute, rhythm, and improvisation, he creates music that feels both deeply grounded and astonishingly alive.

On June 26th, Kaoru joins Chris Dingman’s Vibe Shift once again to help shape an evening of collective listening, movement, and musical emergence. Together, the ensemble will weave a living soundscape that unfolds in real time through the shared presence of musicians and dancers alike.

Whether collaborating with legendary artists across music, film, and dance, or creating his own visionary work, Kaoru brings a spirit of curiosity, mastery, and play to every space he enters.

Glenn creates immersive musical environments that invite us deeper into presence, play, and collective flow through live percussion.

On June 26th, Glenn joins Chris Dingman’s Vibe Shift to help shape an evening of live musical improvisation, where every beat, breath, and movement becomes part of the unfolding conversation between musicians and dancers.

For Frequency II: A Live Music Transmission, we’re honored to highlight Zaneta Sykes — a q***r, multi-Filipinx sound artist whose work lives at the intersection of ancestral wisdom, ecological listening, and sonic exploration. Rooted in the healing lineage of their great-grandmother, Zaneta creates immersive experiences that invite us to slow down, listen deeply, and remember our belonging to the living world.

Through voice, percussion, storytelling, and sound, Zaneta ZANETA helps weave the musical landscape on June 26th into a living conversation between land, body, and community. They will lead the live music and co-facilitate for the dance warm up alongside Adrea Robles, and join Chris Dingman’s Vibe Shift for an evening of collective listening, movement, and musical improvisation.

Before we enter the transmission, we arrive.
For Frequency II: A Live Music Transmission on June 26, we’re honored to have our very own Adrea Robles to guide our Embodied Dance Warm Up.

Adrea’s facilitation invites us to slow down, listen inward, and reconnect with the wisdom already living in our bodies. Through intentional movement, presence, and relational awareness, she helps create the conditions for deeper expression, authentic connection, and freedom on the dance floor.
As we prepare to journey with Chris Dingman’s Vibe Shift and an extraordinary ensemble of live musicians, Adrea will help us cross the threshold alongside live music from Zaneta Sykes.

A Live Music Transmission with Chris Dingman's Vibe Shift

Some nights feel less like a performance and more like a tuning.

After the powerful inaugural Frequency gathering earlier this year, Chris Dingman's Vibe Shift returns to Nyack for the next chapter in this evolving conversation between live music and dance.

This is not a fixed set.
It is a living transmission.

Built through rehearsal, improvisation, and deep listening, Vibe Shift creates music that breathes with the room. The dancers influence the music. The musicians respond. Together, something emerges that could not exist any other way.

We'll begin the evening by arriving in the body with:

May We Dance 🌿✨

We close our evening in deep integration with a live sound bath by Matthew Beck & Malerie Day—offering a truly immersive and heart-opening journey.

Together, they create layered, ambient soundscapes using world flutes, crystal bowls, acoustic guitar, frame drum, chimes, synths, and ethereal vocal harmonies. Through live looping and intuitive expression, they weave a sonic landscape that invites you to soften, receive, and journey beneath the surface.

Matthew, an intuitive reader and sound journey facilitator, guides meditations that transport you into presence and the subtle, spiritual dimensions within the body. Malerie channels her voice as a powerful form of healing—her singing creating space for deep release, alignment, and reconnection.

This is your invitation to rest, integrate, and be held in sound.

Guiding our dance floor journey this month is Marsseia—music producer, DJ, and sound artist creating immersive, high-vibrational soundscapes for movement and transformation.

Her sets are more than music—they’re an experience. Blending live instruments, spoken poetry, and global rhythms, Marsseia weaves together hypnotic beats and ethereal melodies that awaken the senses and open the heart.

From deep, meditative moments to euphoric waves of expression, her sound becomes a portal—inviting you into presence, liberation, and profound connection. This is a journey you don’t just hear… you feel.

This event is part of a series leading up to DANCE BEYOND, a 4 day dance and wellness festival in Massachusetts from June 4-7! We are so honored to be a part of the Road to Dance Beyond! Tickets are still available for this incredible event.
