đź–¤ On behalf of our Jawonio community, our hearts are broken for the families who lost their precious children and a beloved teacher in the horrific tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. We also honor the immense courage of the heroic teacher and the brave parent who risked their own lives to confront the gunman and protect the children.
As an organization dedicated to supporting children and adults with disabilities and special needs, this hits incredibly close to home.
In the wake of this devastating act of violence, let us lead with compassion over stigma, and remember that the actions of one individual should never define an entire community.

Good food. Generous hearts. A community that cares. đź’š
Thank you to North Rockland Rotary for choosing the Jawonio food pantry as one of the beneficiaries of the 10th Annual A Taste of North Rockland!
Your generosity will help stock our pantry with nonperishable food, supporting our staff and the individuals we serve when household budgets are stretched. Having everyday essentials within reach can mean one less worry and a powerful reminder that our community cares.
Tomorrow, Oct 15, don't cook!
Join us from 6–8:30 p.m. at Village of West Haverstraw Village Hall for an evening of community and cuisine that gives back! Details in the flyer.

Shout out to NYSID, Purchasing That Powers Employment who provided the generous grant to open our pantry. It truly takes a Village!

As the fall season kicks into full swing, we are also heading into another budget year, meaning it is more important now than ever to understand what the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) system needs.

This year, we are calling for a 3.4% Targeted Inflationary Increase, a CareForce Wage Investment, and the restoration of the Healthcare Enhancement Program.

Together, these investments will help providers retain skilled staff, keep up with rising costs and health care expenses, and ensure that people with I/DD can continue to receive the services and supports they rely on.

đź’™ During National Case Management Week, we celebrate our incredible Jawonio Care Managers!
Behind every connection to care, every challenge navigated and every step toward a personal goal is someone who listens, advocates and follows through. Our care managers help people access essential services, build stability and move forward with greater confidence and independence.
Thank you for your compassion, dedication and for helping the people we support feel heard, valued and empowered. You make a difference every day! đź’š

đź’š Today is World Cerebral Palsy Day, a day that has special meaning at Jawonio.

Cerebral Palsy may be part of a person’s life, but it does not define who they are, what they can achieve, or the dreams they can pursue.

One of our Jawonio 2026 Virtual Gala honorees Scott Salmon is a wonderful example. Scott first came to Jawonio at just seven months old. He went on to college, earned his master’s degree in social work, built a career with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and has become a strong advocate for people with disabilities.

Scott will receive the Sandy Sewell Advocacy Award and will be honored alongside our “Dynamic Duo” Friends Award honorees, Hon. Lou Falco and Hon. Lon Hofstein, and Corporate Partner Award honorees Jack Coomber and Mary Jo Jacobs of USI Insurance Services.

For nearly 80 years, Jawonio has believed in seeing the whole person their abilities, talents, choices and possibilities not a diagnosis.

Today, we celebrate Scott and people with cerebral palsy everywhere who remind us every day that disability does not define possibility. đź’š

At a time when equality, inclusion and belonging remain critically important, Hispanic Heritage Month reminds us to honor the contributions of our Hispanic and Latino neighbors and communities as we reaffirm that every person deserves dignity, respect and opportunity.

We celebrate the diversity of our staff, the people we support, our families and our communities.

Because inclusion isn't something we celebrate for just one month. It’s part of who we are.
