Notre Dame engineers dedicated to the fundraising, design, and construction of a footbridge.

We are NDSEED, a group of Notre Dame undergraduate engineers dedicated to providing safe infrastructure to all by completing the fundraising, design, and construction of a footbridge in a remote Latin American community.

For the first time in NDSEED history, our annual build is headed to Peru!

Our team will be constructing a pedestrian bridge in Loripongo, Peru, crossing the Río Loripongo in Summer 2026. This bridge will provide year-round, safe access for the community, supporting education, healthcare, economic opportunity, and tourism.

Big shoutout to our amazing EIA Fellow Ari and Bridge Corps Kerry, Andrés, Conor, Jacob, Dan, and Katie for their invaluable help on the project this summer! We are so grateful to you all for giving your time to come help us out and draw on your own NDSEED experiences to make Papa Chacra a success. The energy you brought was great and we had so much fun working with and getting to know you all! We also appreciate all of the La Paz and other Bolivia and South America travel recs! Huge week in Papa Chacra! We started strong with cable hoisting on Monday with an incredible community turn out! We then spent the week sag setting, prepping materials, getting team members up on the bridge for decking, and filling! Only a few more days of work left before the bridge is complete! So proud of everyone for the hard work, it’s looking beautiful! 🌉🔨🦺

4 weeks into the project and huge progress has been made! Anchors have been poured, towers on both sides have been finished, ramp walls are constructed, and the fill we can do before cables is done! Monday is cable hoisting day! Two weeks from yesterday is Entrega! We’ve also been having a lot of fun playing soccer and having cookouts with the community! Until next time I get service :) 👋

Weeks 1/2 recap! Eventually the whole team made it to Papa Chacra and got to work! As of now we have completed most of our excavation and have built all our foundations and tiers. We are so grateful to both our EIA masons and the community members who have shown up to work! We had a great time celebrating Inicio de Obra with the community and are so excited for them to be able to use the bridge! Papa Chacra is absolutely beautiful and the team has been getting in some morning hikes to appreciate it! Loving it here and excited for what’s to come this week!

Today is the day!! As many of you know, all of our work for NDSEED is completely student fundraised. ND Day is a big part of that. We cannot do the work we do building bridges around the world without the support of donors like you!! Please consider donating to our page, linked in our bio, to help us build our bridge this summer in Papa Chacra, Bolivia, connecting over 300 community members to farming lands, a hospital, and two schools. Thank you guys for all of your support so far, you are truly a part of our team. Go Irish, Build Bridges!💚🌉

In between all the design calculations, review call prep, SOPs, and fundraising, the team has been having fun too! We’ve had some epic socials so far this semester from Latin Dance night at Legends 💃🏽 to delicious food at El Tecate 🌮 to game night at Ashley’s!!🪩🕺🏽
