On February 28th, student interns from KnowTheGlow at the University of Notre Dame joined the University’s Rare Disease Day celebration. The event brought together students, faculty, and families impacted by rare diseases. In solidarity with landmarks around the world, the Hesburgh Library’s Word of Life Mural was illuminated in rare disease colors as part of the global campaign. Through the dedication of Notre Dame’s KnowTheGlow interns, luminaries were also submitted in honor of the courageous children whose glow stories were shared throughout the past year.

On February 28th, KnowTheGlow’s student interns at the University of Notre Dame took part in the University’s celebration of Rare Disease Day with programming attended by students, faculty, and families affected by rare diseases. Along with various landmarks around the world, the Hesburgh Library’s Word of Life Mural was illuminated in rare disease colors as they celebrated on campus. Thanks to the dedication of KnowTheGlow’s Notre Dame student interns, luminaries were submitted on behalf of the brave children whose glow stories we shared over the past year. We are thrilled to highlight Notre Dame’s incredible efforts to bring awareness to rare diseases and amplify the voices of patients, families, and advocates.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our Campus Awareness Day on October 10th for at the University of Notre Dame! Over 150 students, faculty, and staff stopped by to learn about the glow, KTG’s global campaign efforts, and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).

Our “Spot the Glow” game was a hit, drawing long lines of students eager to score a free donut or bagel by aiming a glow-in-the-dark ball at a target shaped like a glowing eye. At the “DIY Artie” painting station, attendees used colorful paint to bring Artie, the 2024 World Sight Day mascot, to life. As they painted, we shared information about the IAPB and the World Sight Day 2024 theme, “Love Your Child’s Eyes,” emphasizing early detection and preventive care for avoidable blindness.

Together, we’re raising awareness and taking steps to prevent childhood blindness, one glow at a time. 💛
