The Live Like Brent Foundation (LLBF) was created to honor the late Brent P. Evans and to give back to those affected by blood cancers.

The foundation seeks to inspire others to fight blood cancer like a legend... the way Brent did! Evans and to give back to those affected by blood cancer. Brent started Carve for Cancer, a winter sports and music festival raising money for blood cancer in 2012 during his battle with Lymphoma. He was an absolutely amazing individual who touched the lives of so many. Sadly, in July of 2017, Brent lost his life at 33 years old to complications from his blood cancer. He was an amazing son, a loyal friend, and one of the most vivacious dudes to ever exist. Today, the LLBF seeks to inspire others to live an impassioned life and live every day to the fullest… just like Brent did. Brent battled and beat cancer twice and in turn knew all too well about the many struggles cancer patients face. The last thing patients should have to worry about during the fight of their life is the financial pressures treatment can put on individuals and their families. The LLBF seeks to alleviate some of the financial strains associated with that battle. We encourage everyone, especially those who are fighting their battle with cancer to Live Like Brent - Brent fought cancer like a legend, maintained a positive outlook, and lived life to the absolute fullest! The Live Like Brent Foundation will continue to improve the lives of those battling all forms of blood cancer and make their road to recovery just a little bit easier.

When treatment meant traveling far from home, LLBF helped with lodging so a patient’s children could stay near the hospital during her care.

Her story is one example of the everyday support Comfort Funds provide. Approved lodging expenses are paid directly to the lodging provider on the patient’s behalf.

A practical question for your hospital social worker: “I’m worried about paying rent or getting to appointments. What support can I ask about?”

You can also ask which non-medical expenses might qualify and what details are needed to review a request. Keep personal and financial details with your care team, not in public comments.

Across LLBF’s 13 hospital partners, care teams identify non-medical needs and submit Comfort Fund requests. Approved expenses are paid directly to service providers on patients’ behalf.

When a patient had to stop working during blood cancer treatment, his electric bill became one more worry. A shutoff notice followed.

LLBF paid the utility company directly on his behalf. No cash payment went to the patient.

Planning a stay near the hospital? Before reserving a room, ask your hospital social worker what lodging options are available, whether financial help may be available, and whether approval is needed before you book or pay.

Our carousel keeps those questions together. LLBF’s Comfort Funds can support approved lodging needs through partner hospital care teams, with payment made directly to the service provider on the patient’s behalf.

Want to help someone who has cancer? Offer something specific they can say yes or no to.

For example: 'I'm going to the store Thursday. Would it help if I picked up groceries?'

Ask before making plans. Respect a no, and follow through on what you agree to do. The same offer can be useful to a caregiver, too.

Some of the hardest things to bring up at an appointment have to do with life at home. Rent. The electric bill. The cost of getting there.

We're grateful to the hospital social workers and care teams who listen and help patients ask for practical support. At our partner hospitals, those conversations can lead to a Comfort Fund request.
