One long held tradition across cultures is telling thrilling, chilling, and mysterious stories. The legend of Sleepy Hollow, which was originally published in 1820, is a great American ghost story to share around the fire this Halloween. We hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend! This image is from Harper's Weekly; A Journal of Civilization, Volume XXVI, issue number 1326, from May 20, 1882.

Thank you so much to the incredible volunteers from who lifted gravestones, which were toppled over and imbedded into the ground, back into place. This task would normally require specialized lifting equipment, but instead was accomplished by hand through the amazing skills, techniques, and physical ability of the gym group. Stones weighing between 600-700lbs were hoisted up, and carefully positioned into place. Once again, thank you to everyone who came to the event, and to Dave Biesecker who put it together, it was a lot of fun. More videos, research, and volunteer work that resulted from this event will be posted soon!

Thank you to everyone who came out this Saturday to the Spirits of Montgomery Cemetery. A special shout out to Justine, Bob, and Alex for a great presentation about the Battle of the Wilderness and how three of Montgomery County's bravest viewed those harrowing days. A HUGE thank you to the Ardmore Music Hall Family Band for a wonderful performance that brought out the sunshine.

While we might be closed today, we can still learn a thing or two from our collections. In 2002 archaeological site 36MG378 was discovered in Towamencin Township. The site was used as a temporary camp by the Lenape people sometime between 1310 and 1450 A.D. If you want to learn more about this archaeological site, you can take a look at item 2018.103.004 in our collection "Small is Beautiful: Native American Occupations at Site 36MG378, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania."
