Girls First is a program like no other.

For the past 17 years, this phenomenal arts program has delivered the pinnacle of dedication, intentionality, and investment in the arts, trauma-informed practices, and social emotional teachings. Each year, the goal was to build on and continue to create an environment of love, learning, and life ( and especially artistic) skills that consistently met the beautiful , inside and out, young people and their families exactly where they were. Through committed and passionate teaching artists and similar mission-minded community partners, we delivered something truly special in Norristown and eventually the Philadelphia and Chester areas.

It is bittersweet to say that due to a loss of long-term, sustainable funding, and despite a valiant effort on our part to secure it, our Girls First Board made the difficult decision to close our doors.

We would be remiss to close this chapter without thanking every single person who shared their time and talents with us.
Your decision to work, partner, volunteer, donate...every single aspect, made a true difference, and for that, we will be forever grateful to you.

We hope you know that you made an impact.

We opened our doors in 2009, and what an unforgettable journey to 2026 it has been!

To our beloved Girls First families, were it not for you entrusting your children to our care to nourish and nurture them each afternoon, year after year, we would not have had the opportunity to be a part of so many young lives and their life stories. Without question, we know their time with us will always hold a special place in their hearts, just as it always will for us.

Girls First may be closing its doors, but we will carry these memories forever. We are so thankful for the laughs, growth, relationships, and memories that we created behind those Big Red Doors.

We couldn't have done this without you, and we are beyond honored that we got to do this with you.

Forever and always letting them be...Girls First💜

We did it🎉

Its's been a whirlwind end of year for us at Girls First. This year more bittersweet than ever before.

We want to extend a thank you to , for hosting our crew of artists (young and older) in an unforgettable messy canvas splatter art experience. There was paint and smiles everywhere! We couldn't have asked for a better final field trip👩🏽‍🎨.

Also we held our final student showcase and graduation to end the year. The weather was sadly not on our side, but the Girls First Community was. As usual, they showed up and endured the sprinkles...turned rain...to reinforce to these girls that they are ALWAYS worth showing up for!

Our final monthly theme is CELEBRATION, and we did our best to persevere and honor our 1st through 3rd graders on completing their year while also congratulating our 4th graders for officially graduating from Girls First!

Some of our graduates started out in 1st grade and made it all the way through 4th. Coming back year after year more kind, silly brave, thoughtful, open to new experiences and challenges, and sharing their light with us.

We also want to thank our teachers who chose to share their creativity, passions, and love for the arts with these young girls, you're impact is invaluable here and will be wherever else you go!

And lastly, we end this program year thanking everyone who shared their time and talents with us. It meant a lot, so Thank You💜

One of our Girls First students, Bianca, will be unable to join us for our End-of-Year Celebration because she is currently being EXTREMELY brave and is preparing to undergo surgery for a bone marrow transplant next week.

We were blessed to be able to spend some time with Bianca and her bubbly, inquisitive, and thoughful personality these past few weeks before her recent re-admittance to the hospital.

Bianca has been doing well since her last hospitalization in the Fall, and the doctors are still working towards helping her fight her most recent bout of challenges with her rare, life-threatening disease called Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (SIJA).

Please keep Bianca and her family in your thoughts and prayers, and if you can spare some extra monetary support, it will definitely be appreciated and go a long way.

Below is the link to the family's GoFundMe if you'd be able to support in that capacity.

Thank you for helping us support Bianca and her family during this time 💜

This week we really tapped into our theme of CELEBRATION for May with the always festive " Girls First Spirit Week" to balance our hard work preparing for our final Student Showcase.

The girls (and teachers!) joined in for some whimsical and fancy fun throughout the week. One of our student alum volunteers, returning for her 2nd year, even proudly adding her artistic talent to our Tea Party welcome sign.

Its hard to believe our Showcase is next week, that time absolutely flew by, and we plan to take advantage of every last moment we have together💜

This week we started our final monthly theme: CELEBRATION🎉.

And in true fashion, we started and ended the week with birthday celebrations, celebrated being "uniquely us," and celebrated our Girls First Teachers who show up each day to teach the arts to these girls and help make lasting memories.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all the teachers and educators out there; Thank you for all you do💜!

Our last week of April concluded our month long theme: KINDNESS.

To kick off our last week of Kindess related content, we were thankfully chosen to be the recipient of an act of kindness by who had an amazing team donate their time on Saturday to help make our program space on all 3 floors more organized and open....starting from the very entrance of the building!

The girls definitely noticed when they returned on Monday and were thrilled to see the changes. We can't thank Victory Church enough for helping to usher us into our last month of program with a bit of a refresh🌸

We want to also thank for their wonderful Claymobile program. Their Teaching Artists made the trek to Norristown to bring the art of clay to our students, making it fun and accessible to all of them no matter their age. Not to mention some of the educational and entertaining conversations we had during our classes made the time fly by. Thank you for the creative outlet you provided for us; it really made an impact!

And lastly, we finished off our week with a much-earned Spots of Kindness Counts ice cream party 🥳.

The girls enjoyed loading up their bowls with toppings galore and just hanging out in the beautiful spring weather.

We couldn't have asked for a better way to end our week.

Happy Friday 💜

This week was our first week back from Spring Break and we sure did miss the girls🤗.

We got to hear the tales of what they did over Spring Break. For many of them, it sounded like getting sleep and sun was a highlight... an important balance at any age!

We resumed our arts club lessons, kicked off our April monthly theme: KINDNESS, and also started our annual Kindness Counts Challenge. We also ended the week with some new squishy friends, which was a generous donation from a previous Girls First teacher!

We're glad to be back at it again and hope you have a good weekend ☀️

"What would you do if you were in her shoes?"

That's the kind of question our 4th graders explore every week in Drama class. Through the Artsee© curriculum, they dive deep into empathy by brainstorming characters, exploring conflict, and writing scenes about real-world situations that require understanding and resolution.

Acting out different perspectives in a safe, supportive space gives our girls a powerful tool: the ability to see the world through someone else's eyes. It's collaborative. It's creative. And it stays with them long after the scene ends.

When girls rise, communities thrive. Your donation helps us bring this kind of transformative programming to more girls who need it.
