Thank you Feeding America for awarding us with a $100,000 grant to purchase protein for our neighbors in need! Through the donation, we were able to make high-quality ground beef and turkey available to our network of partner agencies and neighbors who visit our on-site Healthy Pantry Centers!

DART First State's annual Thanksgiving food drive kicks off Monday, November 2! The bus will make stops at locations across Delaware, collecting food donations to help our neighbors in need this holiday season.

Thank you, Tito's, for hosting a community volunteer event at our Milford facility last week! Volunteers spent the day packing meal boxes for Delaware veterans experiencing food insecurity and planting native perennials, fruit trees and garlic in our garden!

A bag of pretzel mix represents more than just a delicious snack. 🥨 It represents opportunity, meaningful employment and a small Delaware business growing!

In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we're highlighting an exciting new pilot initiative at the Food Bank of Delaware!

Through a partnership with the Delaware Manufacturing Extension Partnership (DEMEP), we're exploring co-packing services that help local food businesses grow while creating an earned-revenue opportunity for the Food Bank and paid employment opportunities for adults with disabilities through our Specialized Training Employment Program (STEP).

Our first pilot partner, Pretzelvania, is a family-owned Delaware business. STEP associates, Janelle and Kayla, are helping prepare and package the company's signature soft pretzel mixes, gaining valuable workplace experience and taking pride in their work.

For Pretzelvania owner Erika Smith, the personal connection makes the partnership especially meaningful.

"And it's just really cool to be able to know the people who are packing your bags and they have complete ownership over it," she said.

We're excited to explore how this pilot can support more Delaware businesses while opening new doors for people with disabilities!

𝗙.𝗬.𝗜. ❔ Filling Buses, Filling Tables • Help neighbors facing food insecurity this Thanksgiving by supporting the Food Bank of Delaware. DART First State’s 29th annual “Stuff the Bus” food drive runs Nov. 2–7, collecting nonperishable food at six locations statewide, including Stanton, Rodney Square, North Wilmington, and Newark.

While the Milford community continues to recover from the early Sunday morning fire that destroyed Lulu M. Ross Elementary School, we are committed to supporting students and their families who may be experiencing food insecurity during this difficult time.

One of the immediate concerns following the fire was ensuring that the school's 615 students would continue to have access to meals typically provided through the school breakfast and lunch programs.

In response, Food Bank of Delaware leadership quickly connected with school district administrators on Monday morning to see how we can be of assistance. On Tuesday morning, the district's child nutrition services team used our Milford kitchen to pack bags of shelf-stable food and prepare cases of cold, pint-sized milk for distribution at three community locations:

• Food Bank of Delaware, 102 Delaware Veterans Blvd., Milford
• Morris Early Childhood Center, 8609 3rd St., Lincoln
• Ellendale Fire Hall, 302 Main St., Ellendale

Teachers will staff the distribution hubs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday this week (the Milford food bank facility distribution begins at 11 a.m.)

Together, we are working to ensure that students and families have access to nutritious food while the community navigates the road to recovery.

Our hearts are with the students, families, teachers and staff affected at Lulu Ross. We’re here to serve our neighbors—through everyday challenges and unexpected emergencies. We got you, Milford ♥️💛

October 26, 2026 Update #4:

Our crisis team spent the entire day meeting with school administrators and support staff regarding plans to return our Ross students and staff back to school. Our schools are currently working on assessing their schools and determining what type of extra space that can be provided across the district. We have also met with the Ross staff to determine how they can support our Ross students and families through the rest of the week while we work to prepare for their anticipated return. While we have established the goal of returning Ross students next week, there are still additional logistical challenges that we must work through before making a final decision. I plan to personally meet with all staff members across the district who may be impacted by the decisions we have to make before finalizing our plan and sharing with our school community. My goal is to have this information prepared to start sharing with families tomorrow, October 27. In all transparency, we will still have transportation, technology, and food service logistics to work through, so while there will be many questions our community has, the work to provide the answers will continue throughout the week. I also plan to share updates daily this week to keep everyone informed as much as possible.

I am pleased to announce that we have established hub spots for students and families in need from Lulu Ross to pick up meals while school is closed. Meal bags will come with lunch for each day and breakfast for the next morning. We would like to thank the Food Bank of Delaware for their assistance with this much needed support. Food distribution details will be shared with Ross families.

I would also like to share that the fiberoptic repairs at Mispillion Elementary have been completed, and Mispillion will once again operate on its normal schedule for students and staff starting tomorrow, October 27, 2026.

Our Kitchen School students have been cooking up something special! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Take a look at some of the delicious dishes and smiling faces from last week's Kitchen School Café Days! 📸 Our students are gaining valuable hands-on experience preparing meals, serving customers and building the confidence and skills they need for future employment.

And they're ready to do it all again this Wednesday, October 28! 🎉

We're serving up Southern comfort food at BOTH Food Bank of Delaware locations! Come hungry and help our students put their skills to work!
