atTAcK addiction's Karen Jester joined a handful of vendors Saturday at The Kristine Foundation's Bake Sale at the Reach Church in Bear. The Kristine Foundation was started by two young sisters to raise awareness for mental health after they lost their mother (Kristine) to su***de. Among the interactions at the atTAcK addiction table:
* A mother stopped by to say that she has regularly attended the Monday Nar-Anon meetings at atTAcK addiction's Resource Center in Peoples Plaza and that they helped her immensely. Her son has been in recovery for 3 years.
* Karen introduced Kim Ramsey, the local chapter president for American Foundation for Su***de Awareness, to Deterra medical disposal bags and gave her the information on how they can obtain some, too.
* A young man and his partner have participated in atTAcK addiction's annual E-Racing the Stigma 5K on the first Saturday each March and they have a business offering CPR and first aid training.
* A representative of an organization called Free Mom Hugs stopped by. Free Mom Hugs works to empower the world to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community: "Our goal is to change the world simply by showing up."
* A young woman came up and said, "I know atTAcK addiction." She said she first met our organization at the play "The White Chip," the story of one man's journey to recovery from alcohol use disorder. atTAcK addiction was the community partner for the local theater company, New Light Theatre.
