🚨Final days to sign the solidarity letter!

What is happening in Makoko is not just a local issue, it reflects a broader pattern of displacement driven by unequal urban development.

Located along the Lagos lagoon, Makoko sits on land increasingly targeted for high-value urban and luxury projects. Under the guise of “development,” communities are being pushed out to make way for investment and profit.

We must come together to challenge these injustices and support communities defending their homes, their livelihoods, and their futures.

Sign the letter and amplify this call.

Makoko’s residents, together with , a member of ESCR-Net, are leading a collective call for justice.

❌👑On March 28, people across the United States will once again take to the streets—demonstrating the power of collective action: millions mobilizing, thousands of events across all 50 states, and a shared voice standing against authoritarianism, inequality, and the erosion of fundamental rights.

The Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice , alongside many other organizations across, is mobilizing in response to policies that criminalize migrant communities, weaken democratic institutions, and deepen inequality—showing how communities are organizing with visibility and collective action.

You can find everything you need to join the march at nokings.org, including posters and banners to show up, speak out, and take to the streets.

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights has ruled that the Honduran state violated the collective rights of Garífuna communities in Cayos Cochinos by declaring the archipelago a protected area without free, prior, and informed consultation.

For more than two decades, Garífuna communities have been excluded from the governance of their own ancestral territories. At the same time, tourism operators and television productions — including the reality show Survivor — have used the islands while restricting Garífuna residents from accessing parts of their marine territory and limiting traditional fishing practices essential for their livelihoods.

The Court ordered the Honduran state to guarantee the participation of Garífuna communities in the management of Cayos Cochinos, adopt reparations, and investigate threats against community members linked to their defense of the territory.
For the Garífuna people, who have lived in these islands for generations, this ruling marks an important step in a decades-long struggle for territory, self-determination, and collective rights.

✊🏾 We stand in solidarity with Garífuna communities and their continued struggle to defend their lands, waters, and ways of life.”

Across the world, communities are documenting the climate crisis, corporate power, and economic injustice from their own realities, and turning research into a tool for collective action.

Over the past years, movements within ESCR-Net have been building something deeper than reports or data: a shared research infrastructure rooted in territories, struggles, and lived knowledge.

This work connects communities across regions, strengthens collective analysis, and helps movements shape strategies for justice in the face of climate breakdown, extractivism, and deepening inequality.

In our latest Collective Frontlines newsletter, we share stories, reflections, and lessons emerging from this global process.

This February 7 marks six years since the arbitrary arrest of Alexander Philip “Chakoy” Abinguña, Frenchie Mae Cumpio, Marielle Domequil, Mira Legion, and Marissa Cabaljao, collectively known as the hashtag .

Promoted by our member hashtag , this sign-on statement calls for an end to judicial harassment, fabricated charges, and the weaponization of counter-terrorism laws to silence dissent, attack press freedom, and criminalize humanitarian and media work in the Philippines.

Three of the Tacloban 5 remain behind bars after years of detention and trumped-up cases, reflecting a broader pattern of repression affecting nearly 700 political prisoners in the country.

✊🏽 We demand:
• Free the Tacloban 5
• Dismiss all trumped-up charges
• Free Abinguña, Cumpio, and Domequil
• Free all political prisoners
