This is what showing up looks like.

Last Monday night at Cipriani 42nd Street, the 30th Annual Forget-Me-Not Gala brought together the people who have built something rare: a community that has chosen each other, year after year.

Care partners who showed up after long days. Families who came in honor of someone they love. Sponsors who put their names where their conviction is. Donors whose generosity will translate into Helpline calls answered, support groups held, and caregivers trained for the next twelve months and beyond.

And the CaringKind staff, whose hands shaped this evening, and whose hands carry this mission every other day of the year. Thirty years of this gala. Nearly fifty years of this work. And one night that proved, again, what a community can build when it stays.

To everyone who was there: you made this. You make this.

To everyone who has called the Helpline, sat in a support group, walked into a caregiver training, or stood with someone they love, you are why this gala exists. And you are why it will exist for thirty more.

This is care. This is kindness. This is what we do, together.

Some advocates appear. David Hyde Pierce has stayed.

Last Monday night, David led the 30th Annual Forget-Me-Not Gala as our master of ceremonies, and as he so often does, he held the evening with the earned authority of someone who has spent years learning what this community knows: that dignity, presence, and persistence are everything.

To David: thank you for showing up, again and again, not for the spotlight, but for the galas, the conferences, the panels, and the years behind them…but more importantly for lending your voice to individuals and families navigating Alzheimer’s and related dementias. For the constancy that has, over time, become part of this organization’s story.

Some advocates appear. You have stayed. And in staying, you have made every individual, family and care partner you stand with feel seen.

Some people lend their name. Jane Seymour gave us heart 🧡

Monday night, we had the honor of presenting Jane with the Connect2Hope Award at the 30th Annual Forget-Me-Not Gala. She spoke with the candor and the open heart she has carried through her career, and through every cause she has stood with.

To Jane: thank you for the grace you have shown CaringKind. For using your voice for families navigating Alzheimer’s and related dementias. For showing up the way few do.

Thank you, Jane, for an incredible night, and for the hope you bring to families who need it.

Some nights are worth thirty years.

Monday at Cipriani 42nd Street, the 30th Annual Forget-Me-Not Gala brought together everyone who has helped build this gala into what it has become over three decades. We honored Jane Seymour and Jeffrey N. Jones, two lives that have shaped what advocacy looks like. David Hyde Pierce led the evening with the quiet grace that asks for attention without demanding it. Jamie McDonald turned paddles into promises.

Thank you. To every sponsor whose generosity built this night. To every auction donor whose contribution carried it forward.

This is the work that fills our Helpline. That sits with families in support groups or across the table late night when they need someone to help. This is the work that trains caregivers across the country. Every day, not just Gala night.

Thirty years of this Gala. Nearly fifty years of this work. And every day, it continues.

For families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD), food is more than what’s on the plate and mealtimes can be time to connect.

Brain-healthy foods like leafy greens, berries, nuts and fish can be rich in antioxidants, fiber, healthy fats, Omega-3s and Vitamins A, B and C, which may contribute to maintaining brain health and protecting memory.

We’re proud to collaborate with Eisai Inc. in expanding their Magnolia Meals at Home program to offer nutritional resources and mealtime strategies for ADRD patients and their loved ones.

This is what Alzheimer’s advocacy looks like in action.

Tonight, Jane Seymour and David Hyde Pierce joined Bill Ritter and Mike Marza ABC7 at ABC7NY to speak about Alzheimer’s, the people and families impacted by dementia, and the critical role CaringKind plays in helping them navigate the journey with guidance, dignity, and support.

Jane shared her deeply personal commitment to this cause, reflected on her films Ruby’s Choice and Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me, and spoke about what it means to receive CaringKind’s Connect2Hope Award on Monday night.

David spoke from a place of deep personal understanding, reflecting on CaringKind’s nearly 50-year legacy of standing beside New York City families and communities beyond, and the extraordinary depth of services that meet people at every stage of the dementia journey.

As Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month begins, this moment of visibility is a powerful reminder of why our work matters and why no one should have to face dementia alone.

Curiosity is brain protection. Learning is how you stay yourself.

Pillar III of The CaringKind Seven: Learning.

This is the most encouraging finding in dementia prevention research: cognitive reserve is built across decades, but it can be added to at any age.

In February 2026, researchers at Rush University published a study in Neurology tracking nearly 2,000 adults. Those with the highest lifetime cognitive enrichment, early reading exposure, learning new languages, museum attendance, writing, and returning to musical instruments had a 38% lower Alzheimer’s risk. They developed symptoms five years later than their peers with the lowest.

Later-life learning shows measurable cognitive benefit, regardless of how much formal schooling came before.

Caregivers stop being students of their own lives. The book is set down. The class is dropped. The intellectual life is often the first thing we sacrifice, and what builds the reserve.

Today: One page. Pick up the book you stopped reading. Look up one word. Ask one question you’ve been meaning to ask.

Tomorrow: Sleep

For nearly fifty years, CaringKind has stood with families facing Alzheimer’s and dementia in New York City. No one faces dementia alone. Our 24-hour Helpline: 646-744-2900.
