Citymeals on Wheels

Citymeals on Wheels provides a lifeline of nourishing meals and companionship to older New Yorkers. Our mission is to end elder hunger in New York City by 2040.

Citymeals on Wheels provides a continuous lifeline of nourishing meals and vital companionship to New York City’s homebound elderly. Citymeals prepares and delivers weekend, holiday and emergency meals for nearly 22,000 of our vulnerable older neighbors. We have delivered over 72 million meals since our founding in 1981. Last year, Citymeals delivered 2.2 million meals. That's 10% more meals than the previous fiscal year, in part due to new pilot programs. We also delivered over 255,942 pounds of fresh produce. Almost 17,000 volunteers gave 30,000 hours of service to our mission. Citymeals has set an ambitious goal to end elder hunger in New York City by 2040.

100% of all public donations will be used entirely for the preparation and delivery of meals, thanks to the generosity of our Board of Directors, the City of New York, sponsors and other designated gifts.

This October, your gift can go twice as far for older New Yorkers. Every donation to support Emergency Food Packages will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $50,000.

We’ve relaunched the Healing Room Tour with the ¡OYE! Group and two new event partners, Brooklyn Museum and RiseBoro Community Partnership. At Riseboro’s Hope Gardens OAC, Citymeals provided 180 to-go meals, as well as the ingredients for a salsa-making demonstration. All attendees went home with produce bags—including tomatoes, cilantro, limes, peppers and onions—to make the recipe themselves! And special meal deliveries were made to a few older New Yorkers who struggle to leave their homes. A great way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!

What a night at Yankee Stadium! ⚾

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Pinstripes for a Purpose—an evening of community, baseball and impact in support of older New Yorkers. Together, our guests helped fund over 750 meals for our older neighbors in need.

Hunger Action Month is the perfect time to welcome NYC Aging Commissioner Dr. Lisa Scott-McKenzie and Assemblymember Manny De Los Santos to our Fresh Connections program in partnership with Y of Washington Heights & Inwood! Ensuring that older New Yorkers have access to fresh produce in their communities is a vital part of Citymeals’ mission and we are so grateful to the Y of Washington Heights and Inwood and our partners in government, NYC Aging Commissioner and Assemblyman Manny De Los Santos, MSW (he/him/el), for their commitment to serving our older neighbors. In September and every month of the year, Citymeals is committed to fulfilling the needs of older New Yorkers.
