🇺🇸 WE WILL NEVER FORGET — SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

Today, LIUNA Local 108 remembers the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honors the courage of the first responders, workers, union members, and everyday New Yorkers who stepped forward in one of our nation’s darkest moments.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, sacrifice, and memory remain with us.

We remember the lives lost.
We honor the heroes.
We stand with their families.
We will never forget.

Labor Day is about honoring the people whose hard work, dedication, and determination keep our communities and industries moving forward every day.

We also honor the union members who came before us—those who stood together, fought for better wages, safer workplaces, dignity, respect, and a stronger voice on the job. Their sacrifices helped build the standards we have today, and it is our responsibility to continue that fight for the generations that follow.

To our brothers and sisters of Laborers Local 108, and to working people everywhere, we thank you for everything you do.

Here are more photos from our first Book Bag Giveaway!

A special thank-you to Jersey City Council President Denise Ridley, Assemblyman William B. Sampson, Ta**us Italian Ice Jorques Ruiz , NJRC, Carnival Joe and the Bouncies, and everyone who helped make this incredible event possible.

We are especially grateful to the hundreds of children and families who came out to celebrate with us! Each child went home with a backpack filled with school supplies,, Italian ices, hot dogs, prizes, and the encouragement of a community that is committed to helping them succeed.

Events like this remind us what is possible when we come together to support our children and help them start the school year with confidence!

🎒 FIRST ANNUAL BACKPACK GIVEAWAY! 🎒

Sims Metal and Laborers Local 108 were proud to come together for our first-ever Backpack Giveaway, joined by former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, New Jersey State Senator Angela V. McKnight, and Jersey City Mayor James Solomon.

This event showed the power of labor, business, elected leaders, and the community working together to support local children and families.

Together, we helped students get ready for the new school year with backpacks and school supplies. 📚✏️🎒

A special thank you to everyone who came out, volunteered, and helped make our first backpack giveaway a success.

This is just the beginning. We look forward to growing this event every year and continuing to invest in the families and communities we serve.
