There is a difference between asking God for help and asking God to excuse us.

In Part 2 of “Chosen: Called Beyond What You Can See,” we explored “Chosen Beyond Your Excuses.”

Gideon said his clan was the weakest and he was the least in his family. God answered, “Surely I will be with you.”

Moses asked, “Who am I?” Then he explained why speaking was difficult for him. God promised His presence, instruction, and help—but Moses eventually said, “Please send somebody else.”

Beloveds, our limitations may be real. We may need preparation, wise counsel, training, or someone to walk alongside us. But needing help does not mean we are unusable.

Gideon’s story also reminds us that fear can be present without being in charge. He tore down the altar God told him to remove while he was still afraid. His obedience did not wait until he felt fearless.

Sometimes the next step is not another sign. It is responding to what God has already made clear.

Before we say, “I cannot,” let us ask, “What help do I need to obey?”

Will we keep asking to be excused—or let God equip us to obey?

Have you become so accustomed to surviving that you have stopped imagining what God could do through you?

We began our new teaching series, “Chosen: Called Beyond What You Can See,” with Part 1: “Called While Hiding.”

Gideon was hiding wheat in a winepress, trying to preserve what little he had from the Midianites. Yet God met him there and called him a “mighty man of valor.”

God did not wait until Gideon felt fearless. He called him while he was afraid—and answered his insecurity with a promise: “Surely I will be with you.”

We also looked at David, who was tending sheep while his brothers stood before Samuel. David was not in the lineup, but he was never outside God’s plan.

Gideon was hiding because of fear. David was out of sight, doing the work assigned to him. Neither place prevented God from calling.

Beloveds, do not let fear convince you to remain hidden, and do not let being overlooked convince you that you have been forgotten. The place where you are now does not have to be the final definition of your life.

Will you stay where fear put you, or will you answer the name God called you?

We closed out our teaching series “When the Price Is Right: Kingdom Commerce” with the finale: “The Price Is Right When Souls Are Won.”

In 1 Corinthians 9, Paul teaches us that Christian freedom is not permission to live only for ourselves. Though he had legitimate rights, Paul was willing to lay down comfort, preferences, time, and personal advantage when doing so could help remove barriers to the gospel.

Paul did not change the message of Jesus to make people comfortable. He changed his approach so that people could hear the message without unnecessary obstacles. His goal was clear: “That I might by all means save some.”

This final lesson reminded us that the greatest kingdom return is not what we can accumulate, protect, or keep for ourselves. The greatest return is a life touched by the gospel because we were willing to spend what God placed in our hands.

Your testimony matters.
Your invitation matters.
Your service matters.
Your time, compassion, prayers, generosity, and willingness to show up matter.

The question is not only, “What has God given me?”

The question is: “Who can be reached because I am willing to spend it for the gospel?”

Last Sunday we continued our teaching series “When the Price Is Right: Kingdom Commerce—” with Part 2: “What Are You Willing to Spend?”

In Mark 10, a rich young ruler comes running to Jesus, kneels before Him, and asks the right question: “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” But when Jesus touches the one thing he cannot release, the man walks away sorrowful.

He had wealth.
He had influence.
He had morality.
He had religious interest.

But he also had something that had a hold on his heart.

This lesson is not simply about money. It is about anything that competes with Jesus for first place—our comfort, time, control, relationships, reputation, plans, possessions, or personal preferences.

Jesus looked at the man and loved him before He confronted him. Sometimes God puts His hand on the thing we are holding tightest, not because He wants to harm us, but because He loves us too much to let anything else rule our hearts.

Join us as we ask the question:

Can Jesus put His hand on it and still have you?
