Girl Meets World

Girls Meets World has seen hundreds to thousands of Black and Brown girls graduate from our program and have had hundreds of minority representatives contribute their time and wisdom in our board and as speakers. We live in fear for their -- and our -- friends, family and selves. We are committed to doing our part to help eradicate social injustice so that their sons and daughters don't live with the same fear, and so that they can come of age in a world where they are no longer judged simply by the color of their skin. To our supporters; please take a stand in helping to create a better, more fair, more KIND world where Black Lives Matter.

Today we were fortunate to have Lisa Harrington () come speak to the girls about living with intention, finding joy, and getting up after failure. What an amazing experience for the girls! Some of her amazing quotes: “Always find the joy in what you are doing .” “Fail fast and forward.” THANK YOU, Lisa for the amazing lesson. The girls were also thrilled to receive her book, Taking in Strays (available on amazon!)

Today at Grapevine Middle School we had Dr. Victoria Fitzgerald (Vikki Fitz) talk about her career in neuropsychology. It was enlightening to learn about her middle school years, her doctorate and post doctoral studies and the field of neuropsychology! It is a fascinating career and we were so lucky to have such an intelligent, poised and accomplished speaker come talk to us about it today! Thank you Dr Vikki for volunteering your time to come speak to us! We are so grateful for you!

Today we had Officer Lockwood come speak to the girls about her career in law enforcement. She shared the following tips:

1. Speak to everyone with kindess and respect (even criminals) for you dont know their story, but everyone is entitled to respect. Treating everyone you meet with kindess spreads to others!
2. Taking care of your physical and mental health is a MUST before you take care of others.
3. Failure is often a blessing that leads you down a better path, so keep positive and dont give up!

Officer Lockwood was recently honored by for her role in helping to save lives from Drunk Drivers.

Today we had our youngest ever speaker! Just a freshman in college was able to connect with the girls about the challenges of making new friends when moving to a new school, pivoting passions, navigating social media and her work and passion in the non profit world. She was a poised and captivating speaker!! It was wonderful to have someone that girls could relate to so closely! @ Heritage Middle

Posted • is grateful to have had Owner and Yoga Instructor Jyll Hubbard-Salk () as our guest today! The girls loved hearing about her life and for the first time ever were speechless! At the end they learned how to cope with anxiety, set good daily intentions, breath, and meditate. When the lights came on, there was a loud, "I FEEL GOOD!"
