We thank House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries for sending his statement of support and joining our call to pass the Major Richard Star Act, legislation that ensures combat‑injured service members receive the full benefits they earned.

Right now, the petition is only three signatures short of forcing a vote.

One of those holdouts is Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, the only member of New York City’s congressional delegation refusing to sign.

Veterans sacrificed for our nation. They should never have to fight for the benefits they already earned.

Statement of support from Representative Jerry Nadler.

The Major Richard Star Act addresses a critical gap in VA policy: combat‑injured service members who were medically retired often lose out on the benefits they deserve. This legislation ensures they receive the full support earned through their service.

Rep. Nadler, a cosponsor of the bill, pledged his backing for the discharge petition to bring it to the floor.

His words are clear: Congress must act on its own merits and keep its promise to our service members.

We were honored to be joined by Rep. Jerry Nadler (NY-12), who reaffirmed his support for the Major Richard Star Act (H.R. 2102).

Every member of NYC’s Congressional delegation has supported the discharge petition, except Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11).

We urge her to sign, so our medically retired service members receive the full benefits they’ve earned.

We urge Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis to stand with our veterans and sign the Major Richard Star Act discharge petition.

It sits at 215 signatures, just 3 short of forcing a clean, standalone floor vote with NO future disability cuts and NO benefit reductions for future generations.

Yesterday, we stood at the Fort Hamilton Main Gate, the starting point for every future service member in New York City, to call for the action needed for our veteran community.

Our message was simple: every service member deserves the full scope of benefits they’ve earned, and the next generation shouldn't be the ones who have to pay the bill for it. That’s why we gathered to call on Representative Nicole Malliotakis to sign on as the final signature from New York City for the discharge petition of Major Richard Star Act, bringing us one step closer to the 218 signatures needed to force a floor vote.

Special thanks to the Student Veterans of America at Fordham, the Vietnam Veterans of America (Brooklyn Chapter), and congressional candidate Michael DeCillis for standing with us in support of NYC’s military-connected community.

Combat-injured veterans who are forced to retire early shouldn't have their retirement pay docked just because they receive VA disability compensation. It’s an unfair financial penalty that costs affected veterans an average of $1,650 every single month.

The Major Richard Star Act would fix this loophole, and a special petition is just three signatures away from forcing a vote on it. Every member of Congress from NYC has signed on to force this vote, except for one final holdout: Rep. Nicole Malliotakis.
