HEY FACEBOOK PEOPLE! Is there something we can be doing here that we're not? Is that something you can help us with? Drop us a line! Talk to us. Talk to me. I'm a penguin that smokes a cigar and drives a cab. You can tell me anything!

NYLUG Volunteer Meeting, Thursday October 19 6:30-800PM at the Winter Garden, World Financial Center (location and directions in announcement)

WE ARE NYLUG AND SO CAN YOU!

NYLUG has been meeting, socializing, and acting on issues of concern to our communuity since January 1999. If NYLUG is to continue, it needs your help. Meetings & tech presentations, dinner, movies, beer, places to hold meetings, announcements, working the meetings, maintaining servers, dealing with idiotic ISPs who blacklist our server .... these things don't just happen magically on demand. People in your community make them happen. People like YOU.

Please join us on *Thursday*, October 20, 2011 for a volunteer meeting at our traditional place of volunteer meetings. The Winter Garden at the World Financial Center is indoor public space overlooking the Hudson. WiFi is provided compliments of the Downtown Alliance. We will be gathered at the tables on the upper level, outside "The Grill Room".

If it is too noisy we will relocate either to the tables just outside or to another part of the WFC. Please be there by 7 PM. Information on how to contact us by phone during the event will be posted later.

This volunteer meeting aims to draw people interested in the following:

Kind of meetings/events NYLUG holds
The new NYLUG web site
RSVP software
Job listings software
Meeting Locations Team
Media/Video Team
Producer (meeting manager)
Publicity Coordinator
Leadership positions will be awarded on the spot to those with a viable plan wishing to take action. Your input at this meeting will help shape NYLUG's future direction.

New York Linux Users Group
Sorry about
all those duplicate announcements. We're having trouble with a lot of
the bits of the meeting announcement system. Anyway... the meeting is
TONIGHT! We hope to see you there! http://rsvp.nylug.org/

Please note the following changes since October 2004:We are now additionally required to present a specific list of attendees not to exceed the room capacity as determined by the fire code.

Mark Russell on
Ubuntu Server Explained! http://rsvp.nylug.org
Unlike the flashier desktop edition Ubuntu is better known for, Ubuntu
Server is a lean, mean, no hand-holding OS. We'll take a dive into what
makes Ubuntu Server a great choice for the datacenter, EC2, & other virtualization platforms and talk about the release
of 10.10 Server and what is planned for 11.04. We'll also take a close look at “cloud-init”.
