Whenever trouble strikes and someone tries to ban our flag, the Gilbert Baker Foundation has been there. Through our Save the Rainbow Flag initiative, we have gone toe to toe with bullies and the bigots from California to New Jersey, from Florida to Michigan. From the smallest town to Stonewall, we have shown up and fought the fight. DONATE https://gilbertbaker.com/donate baker

’s PRIDE IN THE SKY brought together community, color, and joy for a celebration that felt as big as the view.
From the energy in the crowd to the love in the air, it was a reminder of what Pride does best: lifts us up, brings us together, and lets everyone shine a little brighter.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, showed out, and made the day unforgettable.

In 1978, Gilbert Baker’s original 8-color flag design did not correspond to any specific L, G, B, T, or Q identity. He saw the community as something larger and more unified: a Rainbow of Humanity” representing all races, genders, and s*xualities.

Baker’s color meanings were less about fixed historical rules than about creating a complete emotional spectrum for q***r life — and, really, for all life.

A City Council Banned Our Flag.
Two brave people stood up.
Both were fired.

On June 13, 2023, the city council of Hamtramck, Michigan passed a resolution banning the Rainbow Pride Flag. Russ Gordon — chair of Hamtramck's Human Relations Commission — and his fellow commissioner Catrina Stackpoole refused to accept that.

They raised the Rainbow Flag on a city flagpole. Within two hours, police had it taken down. Two days later, Russ and Katrina were fired.

But we helped them fight back! The Gilbert Baker Foundation partnered with civil rights attorney Marc Susselman to challenge Hamtramck's Rainbow Flag Ban.

On June 2 — Gilbert Baker’s birthday — we go to court. Marc Susselman will travel to Cincinnati on June 2nd to argue our case before the Sixth Circuit.

If we win this appeal, the implications are HUGE!. A favorable ruling could set a precedent that overturns Pride flag bans all across the country!

But getting to that moment takes resources. Travel. Housing. Legal fees. Every dollar matters. Will you stand with Russ, Catrina, and Marc — and with every community still fighting this fight?

Please donate today to help fund this appeal.

Earlier this year, we fought the Trump administration when they removed our flag from the Stonewall National Monument. You stood with us. We won.

But that was just one flag!

Now we need you again — and the stakes could not be higher.
