Our 💞HEArts💞 were filled today at the official HEArts Center Groundbreaking where community came together to celebrate victory in bringing this historic building back to the people 💪 💥 UpBeat musicians played their part by delivering sounds of joy and soul broadcasting HEArts as an epicenter of the South Bronx’s cultural legacy and future! 🎵 Thanks to all the amazing people who have lived this fight for over a decade and all who have joined in powerful chorus over the years - this project is just the beginning! We can’t wait for this incredible facility to open in 2028!

😎 So proud 🥹 of our brilliant young musicians taking the stage last night for the finale of the 85th Anniversary Coach Spring 2027 Runway Show. They were AMAZING! Their beautiful performance 🎻 🎷 was at the center of an incredible program of fashion, dance and ✨celebrities ✨on an international stage 🌍

🙏We are grateful 🙏to all the wonderful people we had the pleasure to work with for this event - the whole Coach team was ❤️kind and supportive❤️ every step of the way. 😍Niyel, Breanne and Diane are the best!😍

🙏Special thanks to Stuart Vevers and his team for highlighting the importance of  “an inclusive space rooted in sound, community and the shared experience of dancing.” This sounds a lot like to us 🥰

From the official press release: COACH CELEBRATES 85TH ANNIVERSARY WITH SPRING 2027 COLLECTION

“For the finale, curtains behind the runway rose to reveal student string musicians from UpBeat NYC, a nonprofit providing free music education to young people in the Bronx, performing “Love Is the Message” with saxophonists over a backing track. As the models returned, they were joined by eight voguing dancers directed by Arturo Lyons. Confetti fell around the models, musicians, dancers and guests before the performers led the audience into the newly revealed Coach Club 85, where the anniversary celebration continued.”

UpBeat NYC Advanced String Orchestra - World premiere of “The Knight” from The Chess Suite composed by UpBeat’s principle student cellist Charlie Lopez Charlie Lopez, conducted by Ramón Carrero-Martínez 6-19-2026 “Lifting Our Voice” Concert at LaGuardia Arts

Charlie Lopez: “…written specifically for this orchestra, entitled “The Chess Suite”, this piece is a 6 movement work that focuses on bringing each individual chess piece to life. From the stillness of the rook to the royalty of the king, this movement you are about to hear is entitled “The Knight” and has a very energetic almost chaotic tone that’s supposed to represent the irregularity of the knight’s movement in chess. Inspired by Latin rhythms and articulations, this piece sits at the heart of “The Chess Suite”, although not explicitly written, this piece also represents this very orchestra, with all of our goofiness and tenacity for music, they too sit in my heart. I will be forever grateful for all of the memories this orchestra has given me and I hope to keep making more in the future.”
