We are dedicated to mobilizing poor and low income African immigrant women to improve the quality of their lives, strengthen their families and develop their communities. Sauti Yetu's direct services, public education, and advocacy promote immigrant girls' safe transitions into adulthood, curbs violence in the family, and gives poor and low income immigrant women access to life skills and leadership opportunities.

Today is the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Cutting (FGC). This year, Sauti Yetu's Executive Director, Zeinab Eyega, is asking us to take this opportunity to confront an urgent and complex question: do our current immigration policies protect girls--or place them at greater risk?

One thing is clear: zero tolerance for FGC cannot coexist with zero tolerance for immigrant communities.

On December 5th, we shared an evening of community with friends—old and new—of Sauti Yetu! We sampled three types of jollof (Nigerian, Ghanaian, and All Nations), danced, conversed, shopped, and learned more about standing up against gender-based violence. 💜

Thank you to all those who joined our team for the event and to the incredible vendors who made it possible!

✨Have you gotten your Activism in Action Calendar yet? ✨

Each day of the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence, we’re asking our community to take one small, meaningful action to learn, connect, and carry forward a movement to create a safer world for all women. 💟

🤝 Today’s action? Support an organization that supports survivors - it’s a powerful way to be a part of efforts to address and end gender-based violence. If you are able, you can take action by buying a ticket for our Cultural Connections event next Friday, 12/5 or giving to our Activism in Action campaign. You can also help by sharing this to your networks. 🔗 at bit.ly/43Yol0b

We are so grateful for your partnership and support, and we hope to see you on December 5th!

On this , Sauti Yetu staff are wearing purple in solidarity with - and to show support for - our clients and all people who have experienced domestic violence. As one client put it, these members of our community are powerful, determined and persistent. And so are we, in our mission to stand up against abuse and provide culturally-attuned, trauma-informed care that promotes healing and healthy futures.

We can all show our support by wearing purple, learning about warning signs of abuse, and knowing what resources are available. Visit our LinkTree (đź”— in bio) to access resources and see ways to support your community through Sauti Yetu's work.

Those who experience gender-based violence deserve safety, solidarity and support—in their language and with understanding of their culture.

This week, invested $3 million to launch the Culturally Specific Gender Based Violence Initiative. Funding will go directly to community-based organizations that provide culturally-attuned services for immigrant survivors of domestic violence. This means more language access, more legal support, and more critical counseling.

Sauti Yetu is grateful to , , , , and for their leadership, to our partners in The Collective:

Public education and awareness are key to combating domestic violence. The passage of A7301, which requires sexual and domestic violence awareness posters in cosmetology establishments—like nail and hair braiding salons—is just the start of vital public health education that will help fight gender-based violence in New York City.

Sauti Yetu is grateful to the leadership and support of Assemblymembers Yudelka Tapia, Catalina Cruz, Maryjane Shimsky, Senator Jessica Ramos and the NYSA Majority in passing A7301. We look to to pass S7547 soon!

[SLIDE FOR FRENCH] Consent is not a one-time thing. It is a continuous dialogue. When someone says NO, it means NO. Respect others’ boundaries, honor consent, and be a part of a culture that empowers everyone to feel comfortable saying NO.
