Getting Help When You Need It: Lillian García was one of 90 employees at her company that were laid off. She immediately signed up for office temp work, but the low hourly rate made it difficult to pay the rent. The Bridge Fund determined that she was eligible for Senior Works, a job placement program, and for early social security retirement. With Lillian’s retirement income and earnings, and her son Thomas’s wages they could pay the rent. A loan from The Bridge Fund helped pay their rental arrears. Lillian found it difficult to ask for financial help but said that The Bridge Fund “helped me realize I am a survivor and there is nothing wrong with taking help when you really need it.” Today, both Lillian and Thomas are financially stable, and Thomas expects to enroll in college to study music.

HOMEWORK begins with "HOME": Prevention of homelessness is critical to a child’s success in school. One out of every five homeless students transfers school at least once during the year as they move from shelter to shelter. It’s hard to make it to school each day. In NYC, more than 2/3 of homeless students are chronically absent and are more likely to drop out altogether. Their future is at risk.

Your contribution to The Bridge Fund’s homelessness prevention program will be MATCHED by one of our donors. Give our children a better chance to succeed. Donate today at www.thebridgefund.org/donate
