Behind every project are people, families, and communities. These are some of the faces that remind us why LAHU-USA's work matters.

On September 19, we'll gather thousands of miles away in Harlem, but the purpose of the evening reaches all the way to Uganda.

This is why we gather.

Your Saturday night plans just found a purpose. 🍽️🍹❤️

On September 19, we're bringing together good food, an open bar, and a great community in Central Harlem...all to support LAHU-USA's Chicken Coop Project in Uganda. Come for the BBQ. Stay for the connections. Leave knowing your evening helped support something bigger.

LAHU-USA believes meaningful change is built with communities...not simply delivered to them. Our work supports children and communities in Uganda through initiatives centered on education, nutrition, and sustainable opportunity.

The Chicken Coop Project is the newest chapter in that work. If the BBQ is your introduction to LAHU-USA, welcome. We hope September 19th's Harlem Summer BBQ for a Cause is only the beginning of your connection to our mission.

Why chickens? Because a chicken coop can be much more than a structure. LAHU-USA's new Chicken Coop Project is designed to support a sustainable cycle of nutrition, income generation, and greater self-sufficiency.

This September, our BBQ for a Cause is helping bring that vision closer to reality.

Take a look to see why this project matters and how one evening in Harlem can help create lasting impact in Uganda.

Our Chicken Pilot Project is looking very promising! 🌱🐔

What started as an idea is slowly becoming a sustainable project that we hope will provide fresh eggs for our School Lunch Program while also creating a source of income to support our work in Uganda.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to all our donors and supporters who have made this possible. Your generosity is helping us build something that can have a lasting impact on the children and communities we serve.

Together, we are creating sustainability—one chicken, one egg, and one meal at a time. ❤️

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani ...we would love to have you join us at our upcoming Harlem BBQ for a Cause in support of the community that we serve in Uganda! Please check your community event invitations for a request from us 🙏🏽

Before he was mayor, Zohran Mamdani was a rapper 🌶️

As Young Cardamom, he sang “ #1 Spice” for ‘Queen of Katwe’ (2016), directed by Mira Nair, about Ugandan chess whiz Phiona Mutesi. “Bring the flavor to the fish, bring the flavor to the rice,” he raps, including in this now viral interview.

The Uganda link runs deeper: Mamdani was born there and his parents met there when Nair was doing research for Mississippi Masala.
