Calling all nonprofit partners: help us address chronic flooding in New York City ‼️🌧️🏠

The Jewel Streets neighborhood, located along the Brooklyn–Queens border, experiences some of the city’s most severe chronic flooding. Through the Resilient Acquisitions Pilot Program, we are working to create new options for residents while improving flood resilience in the area.

We’re seeking a nonprofit partner to help carry out this work through home acquisitions, flood mitigation improvements, and case management for residents.

Interested organizations can join a virtual pre-proposal conference on October 5 from 2–3 PM and submit applications by October 30.

Did you know?

SNAP is changing fast, and new national reporting lays out the numbers. More than 4 million people, many of them children, have lost access to SNAP food assistance between last July and April. Nationally, participation is down 11%, from about 42 million people to 37 million.

More changes are on the way. Starting this October, states will take on a bigger share of SNAP's administrative costs. An even bigger shift lands in October 2027, when many states will also take on a share of SNAP's benefit costs. Experts warn these funding changes could push some states to scale back the program or step away from it altogether.

Here's why that matters to all of us: there's no replacement for SNAP. For every meal the Feeding America network provides, SNAP provides nine. Food banks and SNAP work together to help neighbors put food on the table, and when one piece shrinks, the whole system feels it.

Understanding what's changing is the first step toward protecting food access for everyone.
