YM/WREA recently gathered at Old Oaks Country Club for our 2026 Summer Outing.

Members and colleagues came together for a day outside the office to connect, catch up, and enjoy one of our favorite annual traditions.

The 21st Annual YM/WREA Kayaking Event was one for the books.

With perfect weather and incredible company, participants paddled 13 miles from Manhattan Kayak’s Pier 84 Boathouse to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. After six hours on the water together, colleagues became even closer friends.

A special thank you to Lindsey Ornstein and David Brause for organizing another fantastic outing. Here’s to a tradition that continues to bring our community together year after year.

Meet one of our newest members, Asha Shettigar.

Asha has over 20 years of experience advising REITs, private equity firms, asset managers, and global real estate investors on complex tax matters. A recognized expert in REIT and transaction tax, she specializes in international tax, fund structuring, cross-border investments, and tax planning for multibillion-dollar real estate transactions.

➡️ Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Mumbai, India and later moved to the U.S. I went to school in India and worked at a big 4 firm there before moving to the U.S. 20 years ago.

➡️ Which company do you work at? What is your role at the company?
I am a Tax Partner and REIT Practice Lead at Cohen & Co, where I specialize in REITs (both private and public), real estate funds, and cross-border real estate investment structures.

➡️ How did you first get into the commercial real estate industry?
I began my career in tax, but I was quickly drawn to the complexity and variety of the real estate industry. The combination of investment strategy, capital markets and tax structuring/ strategy made commercial real estate an exciting area to specialize in. Over time, I focused my practice on REITs and real estate funds and have enjoyed helping clients navigate both the technical and business aspects of the industry.

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt (One Vanderbilt Avenue). I love the combination of innovative architecture, immersive experiences, and incredible panoramic views of New York City. It perfectly captures the energy, ambition, and modern spirit of NYC while offering one of the most unique perspectives of the skyline.

YM/WREA recently partnered with Empire State Realty Trust for a special Mentorship Day at the Empire State Building.

Students were paired with industry professionals for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour, exploring engineering spaces, amenity areas, office floors, and learning about the many career opportunities within commercial real estate.

Thank you to Empire State Realty Trust for helping inspire the next generation of industry leaders.

Meet Tanya Grimaldo, Vice President of Commercial Leasing at L&L Holding and the latest feature in our Spotlight Series.

Tanya brings more than ten years of experience to the role of Vice President of Commercial Leasing at L&L Holding. Working alongside Executive Vice President Jonathan Tootell, Tanya helps manage the leasing of L&L’s entire eight million-square-foot portfolio of premier New York City office properties, including iconic buildings such as 425 Park Avenue, 195 Broadway, and Terminal Warehouse.

YM/WREA’s May Luncheon featured a fireside chat with Adam Frazier, President & CEO of Columbia Property Trust.

The conversation explored the evolving New York City real estate landscape, investment strategy, leasing trends, and the future of office and mixed-use development across the city.

Adam was joined by Dan Birney of RXR, whose perspective on leasing and market activity added further insight to the discussion.

This past Sunday, YM/WREA volunteered at the Xavier Mission soup kitchen, serving meals and supporting New Yorkers in need at the Xavier Welcome Table in Union Square.

More than just a day of service, it was a powerful reminder of the importance of community, dignity, and showing up for one another. Through its work since 1983, Xavier Mission continues to provide not only essential resources, but pathways toward stability and self-sufficiency.

YM/WREA’s April Luncheon featured a fireside chat with Josh Zegen, Co-Founder and Managing Principal of Madison Realty Capital.

The conversation explored the evolution of private credit, where opportunity exists in today’s market, and the discipline behind navigating complex transactions across market cycles.

Josh was joined by Henry Stimler of Newmark, whose perspective as a leading debt and structured finance broker brought an added layer of insight to the discussion.

Meet Dina Wetchler, Membership Chair of YM/WREA and the latest feature in our Spotlight Series.

Dina began her career at EY on the Transaction Real Estate team, where she spent five years advising on consulting and valuation projects across asset classes and markets. She then transitioned into brokerage, focusing on sourcing capital across the stack for both debt and equity transactions. After years on the advisory side, Dina recently made the move in-house and joined Vornado Realty Trust, where she now serves as a Managing Director in a Chief of Staff role to the EVP of Office Leasing and Co-Head of Real Estate.
