Ezra Academy in Woodbridge, CT is a proud member of Adamah’s Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition. Today, on the 48th day of the Omer – the period of 49 days between Passover and Shavuot – we are recounting our stories of climate action and deepening our care for the earth. 

Ezra Academy students are pros at reducing and redirecting food (and other kinds of potential) waste. Leftover food gets donated or turned into something new in the kitchen, and kitchen/plate scraps (including paper napkins!) get composted. At their day school, they’re not just learning about taking care of the Earth – they’re actually doing it! Check out their bouquet (fancy for ‘buckets’!) system.

The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) in New York is a proud member of Adamah’s Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition. Today, on the 41st day of the Omer – the period of 49 days between Passover and Shavuot – we are recounting our stories of climate action and deepening our care for the earth.

With a $10k matching grant from Adamah’s Climate Action Fund, JTS is converting their light fixtures to LEDs. They’re projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 69 tons and save $50,000 per year. This is a critical next step in the significant energy efficiency investments that JTS has already made in its infrastructure, such as heating systems and window replacements.

Rabbi Stephanie Ruskay, associate dean of The Rabbinical School and executive director of the JTS Hendel Center for Ethics and Justice shared: "I am thrilled that JTS will not only reduce our institutional emissions through this lighting upgrade, but is also collaborating with a network of Jewish community organizations that recognize both the existential threat and the moral urgency of the climate crisis and are committed to meaningful action."

This year, Adamah is offering TWO Neshama Quest wilderness journeys in the breathtaking Sierra Nevada Mountains of California!
