💙😇 FRIDAY PHOTO BUFFET 😇💙

Four weeks of snow, ice, and some of the coldest days we can remember. Through all of it, our neighbors kept showing up for each other — and that never stops moving us. 🙏🏼❄️

We know these are hard times for so many in our community, and we are so grateful for every volunteer who has given their time, their energy, and their heart this month. Whether you packed meals, picked up bread, made a delivery to our enrolled homebound neighbors, or braved the elements driving and distributing, you made a difference.

We also had the joy of gathering with some of our volunteers this month for a little celebration 🎉, where we got to debut custom merch designed by our very own Anjali Suneja.

More details coming soon! And we’re excited to share that a small batch hot sauce collab with Brooklyn Grange x North Brooklyn Chamberber x HEATONIST is on the way 🔥 — stay tuned.

With so much gratitude for this community. 💙

We're still working on our full 2025 wrap-up, but while pulling together videos, we kept coming back to this one from a late fall Wednesday—just another regular day for us, where our volunteers gathered to plate and distribute over 150 hot, fresh meals for our neighbors.

There's something about this moment that captures what North Brooklyn Angels has always been about—not just the meals or the programs, but the space we create for neighbors to actually be neighbors. sharing his gift while waiting for a hot meal. Strangers in line who aren't strangers anymore, just people swaying together to "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" on an ordinary Wednesday afternoon. Volunteers who are neighbors who are friends having a fun moment.

These are the connections that don't happen when we're all moving too fast, too isolated, too separated by circumstance. These are the friendships that wouldn't exist, the moments of lightness that wouldn't break through, the dignity and joy that get lost when we forget we actually need each other.

This is what "neighbors helping neighbors" looks like when it's real—not a slogan, but a living thing. People who live blocks apart but might as well be worlds apart—different generations, different life circumstances, different lived experiences. In a time when it's so easy to never know the people on your own block, here they are in the same place at the same time, and instead of just passing through, choosing to stop and dance together.

More to come soon, but we had to share this one first.

Wishing all our neighbors—those we've met and those we haven't yet—a happy and healthy New Year. Thank you for being part of this community.

💙 NEIGHBORS GIVING THANKS 2025 💙

This Thanksgiving, our community showed up in the most beautiful way.

Together, we:
✨ Delivered 1,000+ frozen turkeys and shelf-stable items to neighbors across North Brooklyn
✨ Created four warm, welcoming spaces for Thanksgiving meals
✨ Served nearly 600 meals—dine-in, take-home, and delivery
✨ Shared 300+ homemade desserts baked with love by neighbors

Thank you to everyone who made this possible: our incredible volunteers (special shoutout to North Brooklyn Runners for recruiting helpers at all four locations!), our generous sponsors and partners, our host sites (Ascension Brooklyn, Church of Our Lady Mt Carmel, Lutheran Church of St. John the Evangelist, and Bushwick Abbey), and the hundreds who contributed through crowdfunding.

Special gratitude to ABS Partners, Brooklyn Brewery, Cousin John's Bakery, OLMC Knights of Columbus 6243, Apple Bank, Smorgasburg, Veselka, Vital, North Brooklyn Chamber, Roux Inc., Gotham Organization, Greenpoint Landing, Noah and Allison Chaimberg, Mirtex, Refuge, Oaks Church BK, Barano, TAO Group Hospitality, KC14 Coffee, and Trader Joe's.

And to our talented volunteer photographers who captured these moments: Katie Dadarria, Savannah Lauren, Jan Ezer Dominguez, and maddie barkocy.

This is what neighbors helping neighbors looks like. 💙

Yesterday, we said goodbye to Santiago Lopez surrounded by his Angels family. With heavy hearts, we share that our beloved Santiago passed away on May 14th after complications from surgery last August.

For many years, Santiago quietly served our North Brooklyn community through the Angels, Los Sures pantry, and local gardens—never seeking praise, just showing up (literally) every day to help his neighbors.

Santiago was, in many ways, a person who couldn’t rest - he was full of routines. Instead of saying goodbye before his shift was over, he’d slip away after putting away the coffee pot and supplies and say “okay, I’ll see you.” He’d then go on a new beat of either a meal delivery or helping a neighbor by building a piece of furniture.

For the past few months, an endless rotation of volunteers checked in on Santiago by asking about him, keeping him in our thoughts, and visiting him at the hospital. The same care he showed his community, we tried to show him. ❤️

Santiago was laid to rest in his cherished North Brooklyn Angels t-shirt and cap—showing how deeply this work was part of who he was.

He helped neighbors in countless quiet ways without ever seeking recognition. He’d even huff and puff at the end of an occasionally tiring shift where he pushed himself too much on a hot day. When asked why he didn’t take it easy, he’d just shrug and say “I like helping people.” He made our community better simply by being himself, and his spirit of compassion will live on through all of us. ❤️

We are overwhelmed by the incredible support from our community. Thanks to your generosity, we've raised nearly 80% of our GoFundMe goal to help his family with funeral expenses.
Any remaining funds will support in his honor.

Thank you for helping us remember this special soul. 🌟

Rest in peace, Santiago. We’ll see you.
