Urban Upbound is honored to announce our ribbon cutting ceremony in collaboration with Hammel Houses Residents Association tomorrow, May 29th at 8:30am 🎗✂✨

The grand opening of Urban Upbound’s Hammel Houses office and service center marks a major expansion of the organization’s footprint on the Rockaway Peninsula. At this new location, the residents of the Hammel Houses will have access to a variety of Urban Upbound programming, including workforce development, financial counseling, tax preparation and filing, and more.

We hope that you can join us tomorrow outside of Hammel Houses (82-10 Rockaway Beach Blvd, Far Rockaway, NY 11693) as we celebrate this monumental event, deepening the organization’s commitment to economic mobility and community empowerment.

At Urban Upbound, our Mental Health & Wellness Program was created to help address the growing mental health needs within our communities.

Through accessible, compassionate, and culturally responsive counseling services, we support youth and adults in building healthy coping strategies, resilience, and emotional well-being.

The month of May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, and at Urban Upbound, we are committed to promoting healthy lifestyles by providing mental health resources that support, motivate, and empower our community through life’s everyday challenges.

This week, we’re spotlighting our Mental Health & Wellness Program.

Our program offers a variety of services designed to support the social and emotional well-being of our clients through an integrated approach centered on healing, growth, and overall wellness. From navigating grief, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem challenges to developing healthier coping strategies, we are committed to supporting our community every step of the way.

We at Urban Upbound are incredibly grateful to Speaker Julie Menin for championing the long-fought-for expansion of Fair Fares in the New York City Council’s Preliminary Budget Response. Yesterday, our Co-founder and CEO, Bishop Mitchell Taylor, rallied alongside the Riders Alliance, PCAC, CSS, and champions in the City Council to highlight that free and reduced-cost transit is as much about economic mobility as it is about physical mobility. We are also thankful to Majority Leader and Transportation Chair Shaun Abreu and General Welfare Chair Crystal Hudson for holding a hearing at which New Yorkers expressed the importance of expanding Fair Fares, and passing smart legislation, including Intros 248 and 825, and Resolutions 143 and 52, sponsored by Council Members Hudson, Marte, Riley, and Brooks-Powers, respectively. This week, we highlighted our Financial Fitness and Business Innovation programs. In the past year, more than 4,400 individuals received financial counseling through our services. We also delivered over 170 educational sessions to current and aspiring business owners and provided more than 70 instances of technical assistance to small businesses across NYC.
