The Firehouse North Brooklyn Community Center North Brooklyn's meeting ground for Community, Arts and Activism. Presenters of the Arts Happening Series and the annual TASTE Williamsburg Greenpoint.

Located in Brooklyn’s Northside section of Williamsburg, the former firehouse will become home to both NAG and The People’s Firehouse. The two organizations have historically served with dedicated action and activism while continually shaping North Brooklyn to benefit the diverse and vibrant community. Neighbors Allied for good Growth (NAG) is a volunteer-based community planning and environmental

justice organization that has been performing grassroots organizing, advocacy and outreach/education to the North Brooklyn waterfront community of Williamsburg/Greenpoint since 1994. People's Firehouse Inc. (PFI) has provided 34 years of community leadership in the fight and preservation of EC 212 and offers a broad spectrum of advocacy and affordable housing development, diverse social and legal tenant services, education and vocational training and energy conservation programs to the residents of the Williamsburg/Greenpoint neighborhoods. The Northside Town Hall Community and Cultural Center board was officially formed on May 20,2009, and the organization was granted tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit status the following year. Organizational Capacity
The strengths and skills of NAG and PFI complement each other, and together will provide a strong set of on-site services in organizing and advocating for the community. PFI will continue to operate programs in housing/property management, tenant advocacy, energy efficiency and home weatherization, fire prevention assistance, workforce development services, computer training, and English as a Second Language. NAG will operate ongoing programs in the areas of community planning and development, preserving local jobs, improving the State Park (whose establishment NAG led), fighting against low-income tenant displacement and harassment, assuring that local construction is performed safely and legally, and other issues to help preserve and enhance the community. The two organizations bring a unique legacy of community leadership to the redevelopment of the site. With the history of both long-term engagement with the Engine 212 building itself and bridge-building between community advocacy/service groups and local cultural organizations the partnership will work to preserve the site's character, highlighting it's historical and emerging community services. Culture In developing the cultural component of the site NAG and PFI will form an advisory board of community-based arts and cultural organizations. Collectively the groups will be responsible for programming original arts exhibitions and cultural events on the ground floor by providing affordable exhibition and performance space for artists and organizations with a focus on, but not limited to, local art and activism leading to community success.

Not only has Brooklyn Roasting Company kept the neighbors in the Brooklyn Navy Yards caffinated while the community makeshifts their regular businesses into face sheild making facilities, they have also been making coffee delieveries to essential workers at hospitals throught NYC!

We hope everyone is doing okay in these difficult times.

One of our partners, North Brooklyn Angels is working to alleviate food insecurity right now, and they could use some volunteers for a morning packing shift, 9:45a - 11:45a; please respond if you are healthy & able to volunteer: [email protected]

North Brooklyn Angels is an "Essential Business." They have and will continue to prepare and distribute over 1200 weekly meals. NOTE: They take the new health best practices, extremely seriously.

In addition to addressing food insecurity with a nutritious midday meal, these activities are rolling out to meet the need of a growing population of unemployed workers and homebound elderly whose traditional sources of support are not available:

* Packing and distributing extra meals to take home/give to a neighbor.
* Collecting safely handled unsold food & groceries from area restaurants; repackaging for local distribution.
* Collecting full grocery/pantry bags for redistribution to local pantries and neighbors.
* Gathering larger scale resources such as commercial cold storage, for holding food donations to later distribute.
* Reaching out to create area networks/a coalition to better coordinate and communicate with similar institutions.
* Using local social media to request target help: volunteers & financial donations are most valuable now
