Butterflies are back at RING Garden today. This one is a tiger swallowtail. A lively Black swallowtail was also flying about.

The first tree pit has been remediated and planted. We put a layer of compost in underneath the wood chips. Before we had these tree pit guards we didn't want to commit too much time or new plants for fear they wouldn't last. Crossing fingers that they are enjoyed as much as the passers by who said nice things to us today. These metal guards were initially applied for about 15 years ago and we're happy they were finally installed. The annuals should last until frost. New Guinea impatiens, double begonias, and a nice coleus. Should we do the other three?

The rest of the garden is looking great too. The lavender and white flowering tall plants are garden phlox. The yellow daisy-like flowers with black centers are called black-eyed susans.

Wave Hill and the New York Botanical Garden are adapting to climate change as warmer temperatures, extreme weather and shifting bloom cycles challenge plant collections and reshape long-term horticultural planning in the Bronx.
