Our mission is to empower the inner-city youth of Uptown and the Bronx through the outdoors.

Since 2016, The Heights Urban Empowerment has been dedicated to making outdoor recreation affordable and accessible for teens across Northern Manhattan and the Bronx. What started with nature trips has grown into so much more—we’ve been proud to evolve, adding Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Early Childhood programs to our offerings.

As we step into 2026, we are filled with gratitude. Success is a team effort. We want to extend a sincere thank you to the donors, volunteers, and community leaders who have supported us. Your investment has allowed us to maintain the high-quality service our youth deserve.

We look forward to what 2026 brings and are committed to another decade of impact.

Good food, great views, and even better company. 🌲🏡

In mid-November, our youth group headed to the AMC Mohican Outdoor Center for a weekend cabin retreat. It wasn’t just a trip; it felt like a family gathering. We spent our days in the kitchen testing out new recipes and our evenings sharing meals around a big table.

We also hit the trails at the Delaware Water Gap! The views were so beautiful they actually made us slow down and just take it all in. We returned home with full stomachs and happy hearts. We’re already counting down the days until the next one!

Spooktacular Fun Alert! 🎃💀

The Heights Urban Empowerment hosted an epic joint Halloween Party / Día de los Mu***os Celebration for our amazing youth!

We had it all: a delicious potluck, thrilling Halloween games, creative cupcake decorating, and lots of memorable moments. Everyone brought their energy (and their appetite!) and we had an absolute blast!

Thank you to everyone who came and shared in the fun. We can't wait to celebrate with you at the next event!

We recently held a relaxing Candlemaking Session with Project Earth NYC Our youth enjoyed a hands-on experience, creating beautiful candles inspired by Halloween and Día de los Mu***os.

Shoutout to Mimi for leading this wonderful session. It was the perfect way to unwind and get creative!

From our screens to the studio! 📺 We gave our youth a unique perspective on media production with a visit to Live with Kelly and Mark

It was a great opportunity on October 20th to see the inner workings of a live TV talk show, from the cameras to the crowd. It was truly an educational and wonderful experience!

What an inspiring October visit! We were thrilled to catch up with our talented friends, multimedia artists Rafaelina Tineo and Jim Hutton, on Governors Island.

They were selected for the prestigious Artist in Residence program through Ankhlave Arts, and we couldn't be prouder! We spent the day learning all about their current work, which dives deep into the lives of immigrants in NYC who sell candy, tracing the complex origins of their products.

It's truly compelling, thought-provoking art. Congrats, Rafaelina and Jim!

We took "roughing it" to a new level in October! Our youth group went on a tent camping trip and learned the art of survival in the rain. ☔

They crushed it, mastering skills like shelter construction, cooking, and fire-building under challenging conditions. It wasn't easy, but they learned the ultimate lesson: how to have fun while being wet!

This trip truly wouldn't have been possible without the generosity of Appalachian Mountain Club and their essential camping equipment and gear. Thank you for helping us provide this life-changing experience!

It's safe to say everyone went home appreciating the little things—like a dry house and a parent's home-cooked meal!
