We’re proud to be highlighting one of our wonderful volunteers, Joy-Ann Anderson! Joy-Ann joined the Lewis Latimer House’s volunteer team a year ago and has been supporting our education programs. She shared, “I have enjoyed meeting a diverse ‘Soul Tribe.’ I look forward to conversations with the children, young people, and adults. There have been repeat visitors who remember me and I’m honored when they do! Looking forward to many more opportunities at the Lewis Latimer House.”

Thank you to Joy-Ann and the volunteers that help drive our mission forward!

We’re incredibly proud of the students in our after-school residencies! Over the past few weeks, they’ve been presenting their final STEAM projects, bringing together creativity, technology, and design to showcase everything they’ve learned this year.

Thank you to our school partners, educators, and to the City Council’s Cultural After-School Adventures (CASA) program for making these meaningful learning experiences possible! We can’t wait to see where their innovation takes them next.

In anticipation of this month’s space-themed STEAM Saturday, we're excited to highlight Sabrina Thompson: a former NASA engineer, scientist, inventor, and founder of GIRL IN SPACE CLUB™. Through her work, Sabrina translates space technology, design, and systems thinking into real-world products, experiences, and culture that empower individuals, especially girls, to feel confident, represented, and ready to make their mark.

During her 16 years at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, she specialized in spacecraft trajectory design, flight dynamics, and mission planning. Thompson also holds patents in spacecraft autonomy and women’s flight suit design, advancing innovation in both aerospace engineering and inclusive design.

Through GIRL IN SPACE CLUB, she continues to push this boundary bringing fashion, culture, and engineering into the same space. Through her educational youth program, STEMulating Art®, students learn STEM concepts by designing the future: what we will wear, build, and use as humans expand beyond Earth.

We’re honored to celebrate her groundbreaking contributions and the visionary work she continues to bring to the next generation of STEAM innovators!
