Big news for Clinton Hill, Brooklyn! 🏙️

Empire State Development (ESD) is hosting a virtual public hearing for the proposed 1024 Fulton Street Redevelopment Project. Led by a powerful non-profit partnership—featuring Fifth Avenue Committee, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, and One Brooklyn Health—this initiative will bring vital resources to the neighborhood, including:

🏠 ~126 units of 100% income-restricted housing (up to ~80% AMI)
🏢 ~30,000 sq. ft. of community facility space

The virtual hearing is your opportunity to learn more about ESD’s General Project Plan, review the proposed real property disposition, and share your public comments.

The most famous budgeting rule in America? It doesn't work in New York City. 🗽

You’ve probably seen the 50/30/20 rule everywhere: 50% for needs, 30% for wants, 20% for savings. Now try running that math in Brooklyn, where your rent alone takes up over half your paycheck before you’ve even bought groceries or swiped an OMNY Card.

If the standard rules don't work for you that's a formula problem, not a you problem.

Want to learn a better method? Module 2 of our free budgeting workshop breaks one down step-by-step.

Your energy bill isn't actually a fixed price—even though it definitely feels like one. ⚡️

Most of us only ever try to fix how much energy we use. But the price you pay is the part almost nobody checks.

Want to bring down the temp on your energy costs? Module 2 of our free budgeting series dives deeper into how you can take control.

How many times have you said, "This year I'll finally save money"... and then just didn't? 😅

Let’s be honest: a goal like "save money" or "pay off debt" is really just a wish. And a wish is easy to quit because it never tells you what to do next.

The secret to turning "someday" into a real plan? SMART goals.

Turn your goal into a simple, actionable to-do list with a number and a deadline. And you don't have to figure it out alone! A financial coach at Fifth Avenue Committee and Neighbors Helping Neighbors can help you build your plan for free (available in both English and Spanish).

➡️ Module 1 of our free workshop series goes even deeper.

Two people get the exact same paycheck. One saves half, the other is broke by Wednesday—and neither one is doing it on purpose. 💸

Why? Because we all have a default money style: saver, spender, planner, or worrier. None of them are wrong, and most of us are a mix! The secret isn't fighting your natural habits; it's learning to work with them so you can build a plan that actually sticks.

Want to go deeper? Fifth Avenue Committee and our affiliate Neighbors Helping Neighbors run free financial goals workshops right here in Brooklyn, complete with free one-on-one coaching in both English and Spanish. Because the best financial plan is the one built for how your brain actually works.
