The Participatory Budgeting Project is a non-profit organization that provides support to elected officials, public agencies, and community groups for developing participatory budgeting (PB) processes in the US and Canada. PB is a democratic process in which community members directly decide how to spend part of a public budget. It gives ordinary people real power to make real decisions about real

money. Over 1,500 cities, states, counties, schools, universities, housing authorities, and community organizations around the world use PB to decide budget investments and priorities.

Black August is here - a month to tap into collective wisdom and learning to honor the legacy of Black freedom fighters and connect that power to ongoing movements.

This Black August, we are proud to join New Jersey Institute for Social Justice (NJISJ) and partners for two opportunities for reflection, community building, and action for reparations!

First, "From Resistance to Reparations: A Black August Teach-In" a virtual teach-in will on Thursday August 7th 6pm - 7:30pm, will uncover the hidden history of slavery in New Jersey, break down the New Jersey Reparations Council’s report and proposals, and explore strategies for building grassroots power for reparations and racial justice in our communities. Then, on Tuesday August 12 join a powerful 2-part Day of Action to advance the movement for reparations in New Jersey! From storytelling to grassroots outreach, this day centers the voices and experiences of Black communities and invites all of us to take action for justice.
