The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers Performance Troupe of the New York Swing Dance Society

The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers is the performance troupe of the New York Swing Dance Society, a nonprofit organization. With their high-flying aerials, playful musicality and vibrantly contagious energy, The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers have brought the swing era of the 1930s and 1940s back to life for audiences of all ages. Since the mid-1980s, The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers have been performing their class

ic Lindy Hop routines at renowned venues such as: First Night New York City, Radio City Music Hall, the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, The Battery Park Conservancy, Waterside Plaza and The Roseland Ballroom. The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers performance troupe was co-founded by one of Harlem's very own Lindy Hop legends, Frankie Manning (1914-2009). As an inspiration to swing dancers across the world for over 75 years, this "Ambassador of Lindy Hop" spread his love of swing as both teacher and choreographer. His choreography remains the core of The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers' repertoire, but has expanded to include pieces by other acclaimed choreographers such as: Ryan Francois and Jenny Thomas, Steven Mitchell, Laura Jeffers, Matt Bedell and Michael Jagger.

Urban Stomp: Dreams & Defiance on the Dance Floor

Have you heard about the gorgeous exhibit that opened last week at the Museum of the City of New York? It's all about NYC's social dance cultures, and we're thrilled to be featured as part of the Lindy Hop story (dancing to NYC's own Hot Toddies Jazz Band).

Kudos and a million thanks to Derrick León Washington, his colleagues at the museum, and all the wonderful dancers who contributed to this exciting work.
