"Ross, you delivered a powerful and necessary message in a way that was both gentle and deeply compassionate, creating space for reflection without alienating your audience. What stood out most was your willingness to clearly and directly address U.S. foreign policy. You illuminated how these policies not only create harm abroad, often with devastating human consequences for innocent populations, but also carry serious implications for the well-being and moral integrity of our own nation. That is not an easy truth to communicate, and you did so with clarity, courage, and respect. Thank you for the meaningful work you are doing and for sharing it with our students."

We think also of the Guantanamo Naval Base being on Cuban land without the permission of the Cuban government. Meanwhile, the U.S. has tightened its 60-year blockade of the country, refusing to allow any fuel into the country causing dreadful shortages there that are having dire consequences for the health and well-being of the Cuban people. In addition, Trump recently stated threateningly, “We may stop by Cuba after we’ve finished with this” (referring to the war on Iran).

In sun, rain and snow, under Joe Biden and Donald Trump, we have, mostly quietly, but sometimes with song, and always with outreach to passersby, borne witness to the ongoing crimes of Guantánamo — endless imprisonment, mostly without charge or trial, of Muslim men seized mostly in an arbitrary manner, in a prison founded on a depraved notion that the entire world can legitimately be considered a battlefield.

"The New York Times has criticized the way Donald Trump has waged the war against Iran—while, at the same time, the “Times” insists that it is wrong to hope that Trump fails in this war, because that would supposedly make things worse! Let’s get this straight: The launching of this unprovoked and unjust war against Iran, by the U.S., as well as Israel, is—according to international law, and by any meaningful definition—a major war crime..."

Army veteran Joy Damiani reflects on her April We Are Not Your Soldiers visit. “'How do veterans become homeless?' is a question that should not have to be asked in a healthy society. When addressed to me by a teenager in a school in the heart of Manhattan, it spoke volumes of the world students are about to inherit. Not only are they witnessing and experiencing horrors in every direction, but they’ve got frighteningly little information about what the future is going to hold for them, and even less about the military..."

The Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference begins on April 27 at the UN. With Hibakusha, atomic bomb victims from Japan and Korea, along with friends from the U.S., all of whom are active for a nuclear-free world, got together yesterday (Sunday April 26) and marched to appeal the dangers of nuclear weapons and demand that the UN conference make progress.
