To mark National Hispanic Heritage Month, PACT’s Education and Private Sector Engagement teams attended the 2nd Biennial Molina Health Equity Summit, hosted by the City University of New York School of Public Health Foundation. The event explored how immigration status influences health outcomes and strategies for advancing equity in communities.

Our team’s biggest takeaway: “The community should not come to us; we should be going to them.” That principle is central to PACT’s approach to community engagement, especially within the Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) Prevention program. PACT meets immigrant-serving organizations where they are, recognizing them as trusted partners and vital bridges to the communities they serve.

These organizations play an active role in planning anti-trafficking workshops and outreach that is rooted in community wisdom and lived experience. This work ensures that immigrant youth and families most impacted by or vulnerable to sexual exploitation and trafficking are represented at the table and help shape the conversation and solutions.

In November 2024, Jane Doe*, a Cornell University student, reported being sexually assaulted by multiple members of the Chi Phi fraternity to the Cornell Police Department. Members of the fraternity allegedly used a group Snapchat conversation to discuss sexually assaulting a woman, inviting others to join in. Prosecutors have since reopened the investigation, bringing renewed attention to the case.

The case reveals how online spaces can amplify and normalize a culture of sexual violence, creating environments where it is encouraged and facilitated. It also raises questions about the responsibility of social media platforms to address the harm enabled by their spaces.

We must believe survivors. From the members of the fraternity to the platform, accountability matters.
