A Town Hall meeting about the new High School was held at MS 379 tonight. Current 7th graders who will be entering 8th grade in September 2026 will be able to apply to be in the inaugural or founding class of the new High school. It will be a small school which will offer approximately 150 seats to incoming students. When the founding class are seniors, the school will hold a total of 599 students. Although it will be a small high school, the focus will be a strong general education with several different paths that students can follow to graduate. One young man asked about Sports that the school will offer and the response was that the sports offered by the school are likely to be part of the PSAL program. A parent asked about how clubs or other special interests would be represented in a small school. Clubs will be discussed during the design process. Another parent asked if special education students will be able to apply and was assured that there will be seats available for Special Ed students. There will be more community meetings about the high school. Future meetings may be offered online. They are looking for feedback and invite community members to join in on the design process so that the school is something that reflects the community's needs rather than something that the city decides we need. The last slide shows contact information if you are interested in being part of the design team.

Each of these crosses represent a College Pointer who died fighting for this country. A neighbor. A parent. A son. A daughter. Someone from our streets who never came home.

Because of them, we get the barbecues, the time off, the freedom to live our lives. Relax and spend time with family, but remember at whose cost.

So today, Memorial Day, take a moment to remember and always protect what they fought for.

And thank you to the College Point Memorial Day Parade Committee for making yesterday happen. It was powerful, even in pouring rain College Pointers paid tribute.
