Through photography, archives, advertising imagery, and visual juxtapositions, Thomas invites us to question the images we see every day and the stories, assumptions, and histories behind them. 👀

👉This isn't just a photobook you flip through.

✋It's a book that makes you stop, look again, and ask:

Sometimes, changing the context of an image can completely change its meaning.

One more before we launch into the new school year in just a few weeks.

This time we're remembering our friends from RIT and their visit last school year for a portfolio exchange with our advanced class, where they shared their images and talked through their process.

Every year, students from RIT's NYC program visit us while they spend a semester immersing themselves in organizations and internship opportunities. They also spend time sharing with our students, many of whom will be college freshmen for the 2026-27 year. It's a great opportunity for our students to explore what RIT offers and hear firsthand what college has been like, helping them make their own choice.

We've built the same kind of bridge with other institutions like FIT, Syracuse, SVA, and others, connecting our students with the people who can help them make the right decision when it's time to choose a college.

We're looking forward to what next year brings. Are you?

🚇 The subway has inspired photographers for generations.

From Walker Evans, who secretly photographed New Yorkers on the subway, to Bruce Davidson, whose Subway series captured the color, energy, and characters of NYC underground.✨

They even photographed the same accordion player 🎶

The subway isn’t just a way to get around New York MTA . 🧐It’s a constantly changing photographic stage with different faces, different light, different stories, every single day.👥

It’s also one of our favorite places to take our NYC SALT students and challenge them to look beyond the train itself. 📸

Today we'd love to go back to two of the most exciting collections our students have had the chance to explore: Richard Grosbard's, and Patrick Montgomery's.

Richard's collection has expanded our students' knowledge, inspiring them with the way he shares his passion for photography.

Patrick's collection, one of the most exciting collections of 19th century photography, gave our students a rare look at the medium's earliest roots.

Experiences like these give our students the chance to see some of the best collections we've ever encountered, ones they get to experience firsthand.
