Hi everyone! My name is Jens and I'm a second year master's Physical Chemistry student at the Radboud University. Currently I'm interning at situated in Athens, a relatively small town about 100 km east of Atlanta, the biggest city in Georgia. My lab specializes in spectroscopy of metal-ion clusters in the gas phase which I will try to explain further on the story.

Most people who intern or study in the US will probably end up in one of the bigger cities so I hope to show you how it is to intern at a smaller, more community driven university, which I've been really enjoying!

Although I've been abroad before during my bachelor's degree, it was still a big step to move so far away from home all by myself. However after a few weeks I was fully settled in and I've been loving my time here.

I want to thank the NAF for all the support and help they've given me, without them this adventure would've never been possible. I highly suggest everyone to go abroad sometime during their study and would very much recommend applying for one of the NAF grants if you're thinking about going to the US.🇺🇸

A little glimpse into my life in New York 🗽🌃

From mornings on the way to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai to exploring the city after a day of work. This has been my reality for the past months, and I still can’t believe it sometimes!

Doing an internship abroad has pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way. New routines, new people, new experiences… it’s been so worth it.

And I wouldn’t be here without the support of the Netherland America Foundation and the Dutch2USA scholarship ✨

Hi, my name is Myrthe 👋🏼
I’m a 24-year-old student from the Netherlands, pursuing my Master’s in Biomedical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology ( ). Right now, I’m doing an internship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai ( ), where I’m part of the Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Institute.

This experience wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Netherland America Foundation. Thanks to the Dutch2USA scholarship, I got the chance to take this leap and live and work in the U.S. which is something I’m incredibly grateful for 🇺🇸✨

The past months have been amazing 🤩 Moving to a new country where I didn’t know anyone pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way. I’ve grown so much, met incredible people, and experienced life in New York in a way I’ll never forget 🌆🗽

I would 100% recommend applying for the NAF scholarships if you’re thinking about going abroad. It truly is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Exchange opens doors and transforms lives. Membership supports vital NAF programs—the NAF Fulbright Award, Dutch2USA Internship Grant, and NAF Study Loan Program. These initiatives let students and interns experience another country's academic and work cultures, as seen with Ryan Dresden, an American interning in the Netherlands.

Ryan Dresden is interning at Rabobank, rotating through the Chief Risk Strategy Office, International Business Advisory, and RaboResearch. At the halfway point, he has tackled topics ranging from leading a sustainability and resilience talk show to outlining an international team communication plan to writing on transatlantic policy. Through these assignments, Ryan has strengthened stakeholder relations skills, learned industry communication, and attended events with international clients—all thanks to support from the NAF.

My time in the Netherlands has been transformative both professionally and personally, and I know my great-grandparents, who once called this nation their home, would be proud."

Hi, my name is Meike👋🏻. I am a 23-year old student from the Netherlands, currently completing an internship at the UC Berkeley College of Chemistry🧫🧬. This internship is part of my Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. I found the research group I am working at with the help of my mentor in the Netherlands. The NAF made this incredible opportunity possible by awarding me the Dutch2USA scholarship, for which I am deeply grateful!

The past months have been an amazing experience🤩. This internship has given me the chance to grow academically while also developing personally by moving to a different country where I knew nobody. Beyond my research, I have been exploring the golden state of California and experiencing the American culture together with new friends🌞🌁.

I highly recommend going abroad and applying for the NAF scholarships. It is a truly unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
