This is Jen Guarnieri - our newest board member💫

jen guarnieri | yoga instructor is awesome - here’s a bit about her👇🏽

Jen has been teaching breath-centered Vinyasa classes for over 20 years. Her group classes weave together mindful alignment and creative sequencing, and in her private sessions, she tailors the Vinyasa practice to be accessible to individuals of all ages, abilities, and intentions. She has completed multiple advanced trainings with world-renowned teachers like Ana Forrest, founder of Forrest Yoga, and Annie Carpenter, founder of SmartFLOW yoga. Jen has also completed the Physiyoga Global training, which integrates anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, and kinesiology with yoga asana, merging principles of physical therapy with yoga to create a more comprehensive and ther**eutic practice. In addition, she is certified in Prenatal Yoga and has supported many women throughout their pregnancy journeys in both group and private settings. Jen wholeheartedly believes in yoga as a powerful tool for healing, self-discovery, and connection. She is honored to be a part of The Practice Coalition, helping to bring Yoga for Trauma to communities of survivors and supporting individuals on their paths toward resilience, empowerment, and well-being.

Thank you Jen - we are so excited to have you as a part of our team! 💚

Our next class is coming up! ✨

🪷Sunday, June 21st
🪷12:30-1:30pm

🪷NYC
🪷With Sasha Sigel

**Balance Arts Center is located at 151 West 30th Street in Manhattan.

Please join us for a 50 minute long practice of yoga for trauma. Through yoga asana, we explore movement that feels good, okay, or “less bad” in our bodies. Through breathing techniques and meditation, we maintain a healthy nervous system. This class is designed to help relieve the effects of trauma, stress, depression and anxiety. Many of these practices help restore a sense of agency and being “safe enough” in our bodies. You can choose your own adventure and take the practice at your own pace. We aim to leave the space feeling more centered, relaxed, and present. Rest and breaks are encouraged, and you can always leave the space if you need to.

The Practice Coalition centers those who have experienced intimate partner and/or sexual violence. This is a space for trauma survivors who are curious about yoga as a healing practice. Those who have experienced any form of trauma, or no trauma at all, are welcome. There are no hands-on assists in this class. Beginners are welcome. All genders are welcome.

Suicidal ideation is more common than we like to think. Let’s work together to support our survivors. Oftentimes, people are suffering more than they talk about. Yoga for Trauma has the potential for the survivor to learn how to feel better in their own bodies. If they start to achieve some kind of self generated comfort, they may be better able to reach out for other kinds of support.

💚 Folks who come to our classes keep telling us how much they love them and how much they get out of it. Community is part of it; healing with others who’ve experienced a similar path. It’s not talk therapy or group therapy. But there is atmosphere of togetherness that only Yoga can give.

🧘🏽‍♀️ Join us on Sunday, May 3rd, for our next bimonthly in person class in NYC. It’s free and you can sign up at our link.

Sexual assault is devastating and uproots lives. It changes you, but then it doesn’t have to be a life sentence. Find the support you need. It’s out there.

Yoga for Trauma has the potential to uplift, comfort and encourage people who have experienced sexual violence. This kind of trauma is so disruptive and on multiple levels. Yoga allows trauma survivors a chance to do a practice that really addresses the “whole” individual.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month is here.

Every 68 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. And every 9 minutes, that victim is a child. Meanwhile, only 25 out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up in prison.

Sexual assault is devastating and uproots lives. It changes you, but then it doesn’t have to be a life sentence. Find the support you need. It’s out there.

We hear from students time and time again how much they enjoy practicing with others. How they feel by the end of practice is amplified by being in community with others with similar experiences.

Yoga allows them to feel connection within themselves, and a group class allows for a renewed sense of being in community with others.

Trauma can sometimes spiral us into isolation. Find your ways of finding community. Whether that’s the handful of folks in your life you can count on or being in a roomful of strangers all on the path of healing.

Healing happens when we are in community.
