NOIAW is proud to be part of Comites New York project, Tracing Italian Roots: the virtual community where Italians, Italian Americans, and friends of Italy can share memories, origins, traditions, and experiences connected to their Italian heritage. Last week we had a great time with our friend Ornella Fado at the Consulate General of Italy in New York.
Tracing Italian Root is an interactive map which tracks Italian presence in New York, and NOIAW is one of its stops!

The Italian Republic celebrates its 80th anniversary today! On June 2nd, 1946 the Italian institutional referendum, held for the first time in the country's history by universal suffrage, decided on the form of government following the Second World War and the fall of Fascism. Italian voters, with a decisive push from women, voted to abolish the monarchy and establish a democratic republic.

Join NOIAW on Thursady, June 11 for "Italian Women, Mothers of the Italian Republic," a panel discussion on women's role in the Italian post war society. At 5:30 pm, the Italian Cultural Institute of New York. RSVP at https://givebutter.com/italian-women-gave-birth-to-a-republic-ml9hpj
