NEW TO ZEUS’ RESCUES: 9 pounds of puppy, personality and professional lap-dog skills.

This little guy had a pretty rough introduction to life in New Orleans. He was let out of a car on a street corner and left behind. Thankfully, some wonderful people saw him, scooped him up and made sure he was safe.

They brought him home, took him to the vet the very next day and cared for him until we could bring him into the Zeus’ Rescues family.

And now we get to focus on the important part: what comes next.

He’s an adorable terrier mix, estimated to be about 6–8 months old and weighing just 9 pounds. He was not microchipped when found, has received his first round of puppy vaccinations, and even got himself a fresh new ’do at his first grooming appointment.

He is not neutered yet, but we will get that taken care of ASAP!

As for his résumé:

❤️ People-friendly
🐶 Dog-friendly
🐱 Cat-friendly
🩷 Professional lap dog
🎾 Playful, smart and eager to learn
🥰 Loves being close to his humans
📣 Occasionally has VERY IMPORTANT tiny-dog announcements

He’s still working on potty training because he is, after all, a puppy. But he’s loving, affectionate, curious and ready to learn all about being somebody’s very spoiled little dog.

At 9 pounds, he won’t take up much room in your house. Your lap, however, has already been claimed. Now all this little guy needs is a name and a forever family.

Interested in adopting? Apply at ZeusRescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Bruno!

If you've been looking for a professional cuddle consultant with Olympic-level lap-snuggling skills, we'd like to introduce you to Bruno.

This tall, lanky little terrier mix weighs about 18 pounds and is just under 3 years old. He's all legs, all heart, and all about finding the nearest human to love.

Bruno's world was turned upside down when his owner passed away. He arrived at the shelter confused and heartbroken. At his first adoption event, he looked so defeated that his foster couldn't leave without him. On the ride home, he trembled the entire way.

Thankfully, it didn't take long for Bruno to realize he was safe.

Within hours, he was happily exploring the backyard, sniffing every blade of grass like it was a brand-new adventure. And once he discovered there were treats, couches, and people who wanted to pet him? Well...he settled right in.

Bruno is equal parts sweetheart and goofball. He has an adorable little "whisper bark" instead of a full-blown bark, and he firmly believes that if you're eating, he should probably be involved. Chairs, laps, counters...nothing is off-limits if there's a snack within reach. Consider yourself warned. 😄

But food isn't his favorite thing.

You are.

His absolute favorite place in the world is curled up on your chest, completely melting into you as if he's trying to make up for all the love he's missed. He's the kind of dog who reminds you every single day how special it is to be chosen.

Bruno walks nicely on a leash, has done wonderfully with other dogs, and has been fantastic about going potty outside. He hasn't met children yet, but with his easygoing, affectionate personality, we think he'd happily keep up with their adventures.

Bruno is up to date on vaccines and preventatives, heartworm negative, neutered, and more than ready to find the family he's been waiting for.

The first time this sweet boy curls up against your chest and lets out a contented sigh, you'll understand exactly why everyone who meets him falls in love.

Could that family be yours? If yes, apply at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

DO YOU HAVE A CAT PROBLEM? CICERO CAN HELP.

Meet Cicero, our 5-month-old ginger boy and the newest weapon in the fight against excessive cat accumulation.

Because Cicero has one very important adoption requirement:

He wants to be your ONLY cat.

That’s right. Adopt Cicero and your cat collection officially stops at ONE. No accidental second cat. No “but they were bonded.” No “I just went to the shelter to look.” Cicero has set the household capacity, and the capacity is CICERO.

Recently neutered and ready to start interviewing potential servants, Cicero is your classic orange cat with a slight twist: he takes a little time to decide whether you are worthy of his affection.

He’s not going to throw himself into your arms on the first date. He has standards.

But once Cicero gets to know you, the real personality comes out. He is funny, curious, entertaining, and somehow already possesses the attitude of a 17-pound neighborhood tomcat who owns three houses and has outstanding beef with the mailman.

Except he’s only 5 months old.

Cicero is looking for someone who understands that relationships take time, personal space is important, and one cat is apparently plenty.

🧡 5 months old
✂️ Recently neutered
🐈 Professional Only Child
🤨 Suspicious at first
😂 Hilarious once comfortable
👑 BIG CAT ATTITUDE in a junior-sized package
🚫 Absolutely no plans to let you become a crazy cat person

If you’ve been saying, “Someone needs to stop me from adopting more cats,” congratulations.

We found someone. His name is Cicero.

Apply to adopt at ZeusRescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

💔 Benji needs a buddy — and a home. 💔

This little guy is breaking our hearts. Benji is a 6-year-old, 16-pound wire terrier mix who was recently surrendered to us through absolutely no fault of his own.

Before coming here, Benji lived with another small dog. He had a home. He had a routine. He had a canine companion. And now… he’s alone in a kennel, and he doesn’t understand why.

Since arriving, Benji has been pretty shut down. He’s anxious, confused, and has refused most of his meals — which we believe is simply from the stress of suddenly losing everything familiar to him.

The thing is, Benji is an all-around GOOD DOG. ❤️

We would really love to get him out of the shelter quickly and into a home with another friendly small dog who can help show him that everything is going to be okay.

He doesn’t need fixing.
He doesn’t need training to become a “good dog.”
He just needs a soft place to land, a little patience, and preferably a four-legged friend to curl up next to.

At just 16 pounds, Benji won’t take up much room on your couch.

But right now, there’s a pretty big empty space in his heart. 💔

Please help us get this sweet little man out of the kennel and back into a home where he belongs.

🐾 Benji
🎂 6 years old
⚖️ 16 pounds
🐶 Wire terrier mix
❤️ Previously lived with another small dog
🏡 Looking for a home with a friendly small canine companion

Apply to adopt Benji at ZeusRescues.org.

And if you can’t adopt, please SHARE. His new best friend might already be following you. Thanks! Michelle

💔 At 9 years old, Harry would like to formally resign from shelter life.

Harry had a family. He had a home, a routine and people he loved. Then his family moved and couldn’t take him along.

So at about 9 years old, Harry is back with us.

He’s sad. He’s confused. And he would REALLY like to speak to management about this whole situation.

Because Harry is actually a pretty fantastic dude.

His favorite things?

🎾 Bouncing balls
🧸 Crinkle toys
🥰 Snuggles
📺 Watching animals on TV
🏊 Swimming
👨‍🍳 Watching his humans cook
🧀 CHEESE. Very important.

Harry is extremely food motivated, which has apparently resulted in a PhD in Snacks.

He knows sit, stay, come, bed, paw, down, roll over, spin, jump, heel, touch AND rise, where he stands on his hind legs.

Meanwhile, some of us still haven’t mastered putting the laundry away.

His major complaints about life?

⛈️ Thunder
🎆 Fireworks

Same, Harry.

Shelter life is hard on him. We’d love to find Harry a quiet adult foster or forever home with no children or other pets where he can decompress, settle back into a routine and feel safe again.

At 9, Harry isn’t asking for much.

A couch.
Some patience.
Animal shows on TV.
Someone to supervise in the kitchen.
A reasonable cheese budget.

Harry already knows how to be someone’s dog.

He just needs someone to choose him again. ❤️

Please share Harry. Let’s get this senior boy back where he belongs: HOME. Thanks! Michelle

Roux needs a soft place to land for a little while.

Roux is a 5½-year-old black Lab mix who was adopted from Zeus’ Rescues as a puppy. Five years later, through absolutely no fault of his own, he has been returned to us.

He went from having a home and a familiar routine to suddenly finding himself in a shelter—and he simply doesn’t understand why. Roux is confused, frightened, and having a very difficult time adjusting to kennel life.

Right now, he desperately needs a quiet foster home with no other pets where he can decompress, feel safe, and remember what it’s like to be loved. He doesn’t need perfection. He just needs patience, kindness, and a peaceful place to land while we help him begin his next chapter.

If you can foster Roux—or are interested in giving him the forever home he deserves—please contact Zeus’ Rescues or apply at www.zeusrescues.org.

Please share. Roux has already lost the only life he knew. Let’s make sure he doesn’t have to face this scary transition alone.

If you are able to help Roux, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

🎉 CAT MATH IS WORKING! 🐱 + 🐱 = ❤️

We have some GREAT news — TWO of our bonded kitten pairs have been adopted, and they are doing wonderfully in their new homes! 🥹❤️

Now we need to keep it going because we still have THREE dynamic duos waiting for their turn:

🐾 Leo & Theo - spoiled rotten former bottle babies.
🐾 Lestat & Louis - our kittens rescued from a grave on a sweltering hot day.
🐾 Chaos & Rebel — and yes, we named them that. Consider yourself warned. 😂

Our Bonded Kitten Special is still going through September 30!

🐱 + 🐱 = $150 TOTAL

That’s TWO kittens for $150, and both come:

💉 Fully vaccinated
✂️ Spayed/neutered
🪱 Dewormed
🪪 Microchipped
😈 Ready to wreak havoc in your home

Remember the official rules of Cat Math™:

One kitten = one kitten.

Two kittens = somehow LESS than one kitten. They wrestle with each other, chase each other, entertain each other and have someone else’s feet to attack at 3 a.m.

Three kittens = definitely more than two. 😂

These babies are growing up in kennels when they should be growing up together in homes. We’ve already gotten two pairs out — now help us make it THREE MORE!

❤️ Leo & Theo
❤️ Lestat & Louis
❤️ Chaos & Mayhem

$150 for a bonded pair through September 30.

Apply at ZeusRescues.org and bring home twice the love, twice the entertainment and approximately 47 times the chaos. Thanks! Michelle

Zeus’ Rescues is still not an accredited institution of mathematics. We remain extremely confident in Cat Math.

🥜 MEET PEANUT — ONE OF OUR CITY PARK PUPS! 🥜

Peanut is about 6 months old, and after everything this little girl has already been through, she landed herself a wonderful foster family who has gotten to see just how special she really is.

And their report?

Peanut is basically a tiny emotional-support therapist disguised as a puppy. 😂❤️

Her foster started crying during a movie, and Peanut immediately came over to comfort her and lick away her tears. When her roommate got sick, Peanut sat in her lap for SIX HOURS to make sure she was okay.

She takes her nursing duties very seriously.

But don't let all that sweetness fool you — Peanut is still very much a PUPPY. She loves to play, loves toys, loves belly rubs and is pretty much always ready for some fun. She can be shy and quiet when she first meets someone, but give her about 10 minutes and suddenly it's:

HELLO NEW BEST FRIEND! LET'S GOOOOOO! 😂

Her tail is constantly wagging, she's a fantastic cuddler, and she loves sleeping in bed with her human. She's also incredibly smart. Her foster taught her “sit” in BOTH English and Spanish in about 30 minutes.

That's right. Peanut is six months old and already bilingual. 💅

And perhaps most shocking for a puppy: she basically doesn't bark. Her foster says she's only heard Peanut make a sound once!

Peanut is playful when it's playtime, settles when it's time to relax, loves meeting people, wants all the belly rubs you can possibly provide, and seems to have an uncanny ability to know when her human needs a little extra love.

Her foster summed her up better than we ever could: “She truly is the sweetest dog I have ever encountered, and anyone would be so lucky to have her as their friend.”

Peanut survived being abandoned at City Park.

Now this sweet, goofy, belly-up little girl deserves to know what it's like to be home for good.

🥜 Who needs a little Peanut in their life? Apply to adopt at ZeusRescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

🐾 Daphne headed North… but Velma is still waiting in NOLA. 🐾

Velma and her sister, Daphne, hold a bittersweet little piece of Zeus’ Rescues history — they were the final two dogs ever dumped over the fence at our old Napoleon location before we closed that chapter, tore down the fence, and moved to Freret.

Well, Daphne recently got her ticket out! She hopped on a transport up North, where she’ll have a new opportunity to find her forever home.

But Velma is still here in New Orleans, wondering when it will be her turn.

At just 1.5 years old, Velma has already had enough uncertainty for one little lifetime. She’s ready to trade being left behind for being chosen.

And this girl is SO ready.

🐾 Dog friendly and would love a canine buddy
🐾 Equal parts playful and loving
🐾 A loyal sidekick with a heart of gold
🐾 Always up for an adventure
🐾 Equally happy settling in for couch cuddles
🐾 Professional shadow and full-time best friend

Velma is also ALL young dog. She’s happy, energetic, playful and sometimes a little rambunctious because apparently no one has informed her that she isn’t a tiny puppy anymore. 😂

Because of her enthusiasm for life, Velma would do best in a home with older children who won’t mind her exuberant personality and can keep up with her.

She’s sweet, resilient, dog friendly and still ridiculously optimistic about humans despite the way her story started.

Her sister has moved on to her next chapter. Now we need to make sure Velma doesn’t get forgotten.

A couch. A person. Maybe a dog sibling. A family. Someone who looks at that face and says, “Yep. You’re coming home with me.”

Velma’s past started with someone leaving her behind.

Let’s make sure her future starts with someone choosing her. Apply to adopt or foster Velma at ZeusRescues.org. Please share and help us find Velma her people! Thanks! Michelle
