💚 Hunger Action Month comes at an important time for Louisiana.

More than 82,000 Louisiana children are no longer receiving SNAP benefits compared with last year.

Behind every statistic is a real household trying to put food on the table—and losing assistance doesn’t necessarily mean a family no longer needs help.
If your SNAP benefits have stopped or changed unexpectedly, please don’t assume there’s nothing you can do. Check your case, respond to any requests for information and contact Louisiana’s benefits office for case-specific help.

And if groceries are tight right now, please use your local food pantry. That is exactly why these resources exist.

No judgment. No stigma. Just neighbors helping neighbors. 💚

💚 September is Hunger Action Month—and the need right here at home is growing.

- Nearly 482,000 of our neighbors across South Louisiana are facing food insecurity.
Even harder to hear: 1 in 4 children is affected.
- Local food organizations are seeing more families asking for help at the same time that the cost of groceries continues to stretch budgets—for families and the organizations trying to help them.
- And the foods people need most? Fresh produce and protein—often some of the most expensive items to provide.
- Hunger Action Month is a reminder that none of us has to solve hunger alone.
- Donate food. Give a few dollars. Volunteer an hour. Check on a neighbor. Support your local pantry.

Every action matters. 💚

🚨IMPORTANT MEDICARE PART D INFO🚨

If you or a loved one has Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage, there are changes coming in 2027 that you should know about.

The federal subsidy program that has helped keep monthly prescription drug plan premiums lower is ending after 2026. As a result, some Medicare beneficiaries could see higher monthly premiums, while others may see little or no change depending on their plan. New premium information is expected to be released this fall. ABC7 New York

Hospice is one of the most misunderstood parts of healthcare. 💜

Many families don't realize:
✔️ You can change hospice providers if you're unhappy with your care.
✔️ Hospice covers medications, medical equipment and supplies related to your hospice diagnosis.
✔️ Being on hospice doesn't mean you can't go to the emergency room if you need urgent care.
✔️ Palliative care and hospice are not the same thing—palliative care can begin much earlier alongside treatment.
✔️ Hospice nurses aren't with patients 24/7, but additional support may be available when symptoms become more severe.
Knowing your options can make a difficult time a little less overwhelming.
If you or a loved one is facing serious illness, don't be afraid to ask questions and learn about the services available to you. Understanding your choices helps you make the best decisions for your family. 💚

FACT: SNAP supports many different people—including workers earning low wages, families with children, older adults, people with disabilities and people between jobs.

Needing help with groceries is not a personal failure. Food is a basic need, and everyone deserves to eat with dignity.

SNAP rules and eligibility requirements are changing, so please get case-specific information directly from Louisiana DCFS at dcfs.louisiana.gov.
