www.youthempowermentproject.org It was the first program of its kind in the state of Louisiana.

Youth Empowerment Project was founded in 2004 by three juvenile justice advocates to support formerly incarcerated young people as they transitioned back into their communities. Since then, YEP has expanded to engage young people who live in poverty, are out of school or work, or have experienced trauma. Today, we provide mentoring and youth advocacy, adult education and high school equivalency preparation, employment readiness and career exploration, and out-of-school time enrichment programming.

YEP Enriches provides free out-of-school time enrichment for young people ages 7 to 15 in the Central City and
New Orleans East neighborhoods of New Orleans.

The program includes daily academic support, social-emotional learning, music and arts instruction, recreation, summer camps, and nutritious meals.

YEP Educates provides free adult education and high school equivalency (HiSET) preparation for learners ages 16 and up in the greater New Orleans area.

YEP Educates includes flexible class schedules at three locations, HiSET en Español, support with HiSET testing fees, and help transitioning into college, job training, or the workforce.

We’re so grateful for our partnership with Valero and the meaningful experiences they continue to provide for YEP participants in St. Charles Parish!

Today, Valero plant staff joined our group session, sharing their time, knowledge, and a hands-on STEM activity.
Our participants explored how oil and water interact while creating their own lava lamps! 💡

Thank you to the entire Valero team for investing in our young people and giving them opportunities to learn, explore, and connect STEM to the world around them.

A big thank you to HOST for welcoming our YEP youth to your facility and giving them the opportunity to learn about career opportunities, professional growth, and what it can look like to build a career.

We’re especially grateful to Nubia, Greer, Jarred, and Amanda for sharing their career paths, personal journeys, and experiences with our young people.

Hearing directly from professionals about their journeys helps our youth see what’s possible and envision their own paths forward.

We truly appreciate your partnership and commitment to helping young people explore their futures! ❤️💙💚
