We made it through the unbearable heat and it is time for more Bike Easy Learn-to-Rides! Our upcoming classes are:

-Youth Learn to Ride on Saturday, November 21st, 2026 from 9:00 AM-11:30 AM

-Teen & Adult Learn to Ride on Saturday, December 19th, 2026 from 9:00 AM-11:30 AM

-Youth Learn to Ride on Saturday, January 23rd, 2026 from 9:00 AM-11:30 AM

Remember, it's never too late to learn how to ride a bike. You'll be surprised how quickly you can learn! For more information, head on over to our event pages at bikeeasy.org/events, at the link in our Linktree or scan the QR code!

This class is offered at a suggested sliding-scale rate of $25-$75 dollars. Hope to see you there!

You might notice more people biking during the - and maybe you’ve asked yourself: “Why isn’t that person using the bike lane?!”

If you ride a bike in New Orleans, you already know why:
✨ Bike lanes often collect debris, trash, and gravel
🚧 Construction zones and endless potholes
🚗 Parked cars and doors swinging open
➡️ And sometimes, there just isn’t a bike lane at all!

All of this can make it unsafe - or impossible - to stay in the bike lane. Weaving in and out is also risky because it makes people on bikes less visible and more unpredictable.

💡 Sometimes the safest (and only) option is to ride in the main lane of traffic. And yes, it’s completely legal for bicyclists to do so - especially when making a left turn or avoiding a right-turn-only lane.

We can’t control every hazard in the street, but we can control how we treat each other. Let’s all give grace to vulnerable road users - people walking, biking, using mobility devices and using public transit. Please give 3 feet of space and pass slowly.

We are pleased to announce that years of Bike Easy advocacy for a Safer St. Claude has finally paid off! Shout out to New Orleans Complete Streets Coalition!

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD) has invited Bike Easy and other stakeholders to participate in a Roadside Safety Assessment (RSA) at the end of October!

The purpose of the RSA is to collect data from upwards of 21 intersections along the St. Claude corridor, to understand and prioritize short-term improvements LaDOTD can make to improve the safety of vulnerable road users (people walking, biking, using public transportation and mobility devices).

Keep in mind, LaDOTD's consultant, Gresham Smith, announced they would be deploying cameras along the St. Claude Ave corridor between Elysian Fields Ave and the St. Bernard Parish line in late September to take counts of the number of motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists that use the corridor. Don't worry- these cameras are not flock cameras! They only capture only traffic movement data and do not record audio, license plates, or any personally identifiable information and no information will be shared with third parties. Again, these cameras are just to take counts of road-users and modalities.

Bike Easy will continue to advocate for a combination of protected bike lanes, traffic calming measures, improved lighting, safer pedestrian crossings and ADA compliant sidewalks, at minimum. We will keep you updated on the outcome of this traffic study once the results synthesized, as well as the short and long-term plans that develop from it!

As part of our Safer St Claude campaign, Bike Easy is adopting the first block of St Claude (just off Esplanade) for this weekend’s Bywater Marigny Business Organization Trash Bash!
We are looking for volunteers to help us out from 11-3 (shorter shifts are ok) - we will clean, sweep and give out information about our campaign! If interested contact our executive director at [email protected]

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our Smart E-Biking Workshop this past Saturday! It was an action packed day full of discussions around e-biking and on e-bike practice.

We love the enthusiasm that our community has for e-bikes and it makes sense! E-bikes are transforming the way people travel within the city and their impacts are huge! Not only are they low-cost compared to a car, they have great health and environmental benefits.

One of our participants of the class shared that she was a cancer survivor who thought she would never be able to bike again - yet e-bikes have been making it possible!

We are so happy to be able to steward e-bikes into our city and we are looking forward to seeing how their adoptions speeds up much-needed bike infrastructure improvements, too!

Thank you again to Blue Bikes New Orleans and New Orleans Health Department for your contributions to this class! Together, we are making real change toward a more connected, transit-friendly city.
