Did you know Christ Church, New Bern has been a partner in our mission since the very beginning?

In fact, is listed in our very first annual report as a supporter of what was then known as the "soup kitchen." More than 40 years later, they're still standing alongside us!

We're grateful for their recent generous donation, but even more grateful for their decades of faithful partnership.

Our friends at Trent Cadillac Buick helped ensure guests had a Safe Voyage Home from our Haunted Histories Gala earlier this month, but the fun didn't stop there!

Several Trent team members attended the gala and returned to the dealership sharing stories of a fantastic evening. When their coworkers caught sight of the custom RCS steins, they wanted some, too!

So, this week, our team made a special delivery to the dealership!

Sometimes, the most meaningful measure of our impact isn't found in a report or a statistic. It's found in the words of someone we've had the privilege of serving.

Recently, a neighbor shared a heartfelt letter with our Director of Programs, Cynthia Miller, expressing what food and utility assistance have meant to her.

🏠 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿: 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱

At RCS, we believe our mission goes beyond meeting immediate needs. It's about empowering our neighbors with the tools and opportunities to build a more stable future.

A warm meal matters. A safe place to sleep matters. Assistance during a financial crisis matters.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝘁𝗼𝗼.

Since August, we've partnered with First Citizens Bank to offer financial literacy classes twice monthly. In just six classes, we've already seen meaningful progress!

🎉 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲!

That's more than a banking milestone. It's a step toward financial independence and lasting change.

Even more encouraging, community partners are beginning to refer individuals to these classes, expanding their reach beyond those already receiving services at RCS.

Earlier this month, RCS was grateful to partner with Craven Community College for its Fall Food Distribution Day, held during Craven Cares Mental Health Awareness Week!

Food insecurity doesn't stop at the classroom door. For many college students, balancing tuition, transportation, work, and family responsibilities can make putting food on the table a challenge.

𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. When students don't have to worry about where their next meal will come from, they can focus on learning, growing, and building a brighter future.

❤️ Thank you to Community College for recognizing that supporting students means caring for the whole person. We're grateful for this partnership and the opportunity to help remove barriers to education, one meal at a time.

Food insecurity affects more of our neighbors than we might realize—from working families stretching their paychecks to seniors living on fixed incomes.

Thanks to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and our generous retail partners, RCS helps give perfectly good food one last opportunity to fulfill its purpose: 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲!

Through our Pop-Up Food Distributions, we're reducing food waste while increasing access to food for our community.

What a night! 🏴‍☠️⚓️

We've received such wonderful feedback from Saturday's Haunted Histories: Tales of the High Seas gala, and our hearts are full!

While it was certainly a fantastic night out, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. ❤️

Yesterday, I had the chance to attend the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce’s Midday Mingle at Religious Community Services of New Bern, Inc. and walk around their fantastic campus, including the community kitchen. It was a great opportunity to see firsthand the work happening right here in our community.

What started with handing out soup from the back of a station wagon has grown into an incredible organization providing food, shelter, housing assistance, and support through partnerships in career education and job training. They’re holding their annual fundraiser this Saturday, but the need in our community doesn’t stop there.

There’s still more we can do. Whether it’s writing a check, volunteering to serve a meal, or preparing dinner and bringing it to the Community Kitchen on the weekend, every bit of support matters.

RCS brings together resources that make a real difference for our neighbors who need a helping hand. I encourage everyone to learn more about their work and find a way to get involved. We’re fortunate to have an organization like this serving our community, and they deserve our support year-round.
